So you haven't met many evangelical Christians?

The teachings and overall philosophy of the New Testament are based on tolerance and understanding. Unfortunately the populist brand of Christianity is rooted in Old Testament blood and thunder. I don't think Jesus would have approved of how his message has been wildly misunderstood.

My main point though, is that Christianity is as much of an ideology as anything else people care to believe in.

They're both ideologies but in the NHS one is accommodated and the other gets you investigated for disciplinary offences.
