I think this marks the first court case where someone has won based on being denied goods and services because of their gender critical beliefs. Previous cases have settled out of court, eg Julie Bindel's talk being cancelled.

It's an interesting cross over with the Kneecap/Bob Vylan stuff. People so often think their favoured types of freedom of speech and belief should be protected from discrimination, but other people's not so much.

Notice this wording though:
A spokesman for the authority said: "Having accepted that our decision to cancel the event Julie Bindel was due to speak at was procedurally unlawful, we apologised to her and Nottingham Women for Change for the inconvenience caused and agreed to make payment to them and ticket holders to address reasonable losses they incurred."
This strongly reads as "we will do it again, but we made a mistake in the procedures this time. Next time we know the correct procedure"

At some point society will look back at these operations in the way we now look at lobotomies. We'll be aghast they we're ever allowed, never mind promoted as a cure for feeling unhappy.
Just because they've changed the name and altered the way they're being done, doesn't mean they're no longer doing the same things.
If anything, some procedures are more invasive now than they were before.
The success rate may be lower in todays modern procedures, but hey they changed the name so it's not the same operation any more.

So, voluntary surgery for people willing to undergo it then?

It's not something I particularly agree with, but it's hardly ghoulish medical experimentation, or equivalent to a lobotomy.

Your defence of the indefensible is absolutely fycking astonishing to me.

We don't allow people to voluntarily have other non essential surgery, never mind encourage it as a cure for mental health issues. I would actually dispute that it's 'voluntary' in the sense that these kids and young people are fed a lie that it will cure their unhappiness and, in the US at least, are approved for surgery with little exploration of alternative treatments.

Unfortunately, those surgeons responsible will simply fade away quietly because US laws and the statute of limitations mean it's very difficult to hold them to account.

You can request women only drivers on Uber, and women drivers can request only women passengers. It is a great idea but as with all 'women only' services it only works if the company acknowledge biological reality and don't let males identify as female.
