The fact that it is that high should be taken a lot more seriously.

And those who think that making Farage look ridiculous is enough should read this

I'm sure you've used Germany in the 20s and 30s before as a comparison.

I'm just worried I'll need a wheelbarrow to carry my currency after the £ tanks.

That's the kind of complacency that gave us brexit, de Pfeffel and Trump.

Unlikely Starmer will be able to charge VAT on private schools, it could possibly breach ECHR rules. State education is VAT exempt

And I doubt that the echr would get involved. For one, they don't generally address taxation policy, and two, other European countries such as Spain are also looking at VAT on private education, and there's no indication that either EU law or the ECHR would have anything to say against it.

No it’s actually a Brexit benefit.
He couldn’t do it if we were still in EU.

I don't think the EU has anything to do with it, Spain has looked to charge VAT on private education, and the main reason to not do it is because it would not bring in much money, not because of EU law.

It appears that Greece charges VAT on private health and education, so no EU ban on VAT on private schools.

We inherited a stamp collection that had a lot of what are called overprinted stamps from the time of the Weimar Republic. Printed and then stamped because inflation had gone up so much by the time they reached the shops.
Cool things but not really that collectable.

Think you are probably more interested in the artifacts that came a few years later

That's the kind of complacency that gave us brexit, de Pfeffel and Trump.

Not complacent at all, just not into flights of fantasy predicated on us being just one short step away from a fascist state.

We always have to be aware of the dangers of right wing populists...who are already an electoral danger in France (inside the EU!), and hopefully a term or two of a centre left government will provide the environment whereby too many people do not feel the need to turn to them here.

Your thinking seems to me the mirror image of all those right wing newspapers and TV channels that saw Corbyn as Trotsky reborn and now sees Starmer as turning the UK into a socialist state.

Whatever happens I am certain that the UK is not quite ready to turn to a Hitler like figure, and even more certain that Farage is not in that league, even if he grows a moustache.
