The thing is nothing that anyone on this tiny forum, sitting in their comfortable western homes, tapping away at their keyboards, has to say or wish for will have any influence at all on what is happening so it's OK to come up with a wish list knowing that there are no responsibilities or comebacks for anything that goes wrong in the short or long term.

We can make the arguments and 'solutions' as fanciful as we like knowing it is all pie-in-the-sky until the US decides what Israel will be allowed to do or until war in the middle east breaks out...and that will be worse for even more innocent people.

The whole thing is a sh*tshow and I have no issue with anyone who may have a different opinion to me on the best way forward, or who is to blame, as none of our opinions are worth the computer power we have used up in suggesting them. It is like two bald men arguing over a comb.

Just look and weep.

You don't even have any idea of what Palestine being free means, not even in your own eyes. You have no clue about how there could be a path forward other than Israel capitulates to all your vague demands.

All he's putting out there is slogans. I think Israel should cease hostilities asap. They're probably negotiating re the hostages already but I think Hamas should return the ones that are still alive immediately. There needs to be an interim governing authority put in place in Gaza - I don't know how you would even start that given that the UN are useless and Hamas are in everything, but maybe Muslim neighbours could assist. Start rebuilding it with international aid and the money not being siphoned off to terrorists.

Long term? If Netanyahu and Hamas are gone there will be an opportunity to look again at a 2 state solution and Israel withdrawing from the expansion settlements. Anything other than that is a non starter.

Yeah, see, you've just done exactly the same thing. Only more vague.

How is that more vague that a nebulous 'Free from x,y,z..'? How do you provide for the Palestinians being free from x,y,z in a way that doesn't involve wiping Israel from the map (because that's a non starter)? A 2 state solution is the only logical direction to work towards.

Free Palestine 🇵🇸

It would be nice if the Palestinian and other Arab nations as well as Israel, and every nation in fact adopted that, but it's not worth the paper it's written on

Even Japan maintains military forces, the Japanese Armed Forces so they realise it's nothing more than a pipe dream

As nobody cares to share any specific vision of what a free Palestine might look like,

The time for tolerating disingenuous bullshit like this is over. The time for a "two state solution" is over - not because of Hamas, or of any other element of the resistance you happen to disapprove of (various colours of Palestinian leadership have recognised Israel, and where has it got them?). Israel - the whole idea of Israel - is over. There is no way back from what we have seen it enact in its "defence". Liberals on internet forums pretend they don't know what it means for people to exist in their own land without the threat of displacement or annihilation, as if it weren't ludicrously simple shit that they take for granted every day of their lives. They know very well - it means the end of the occupation, the end of colonialism, the end of domination.

I am not denying both sides are in the wrong.

Unlike you, I do not have Rose tinted glasses on and do not believe its the case that one side is wrong and the other can do no wrong.

Sadly it would appear you want to perpetuate the divide by trying to prove onside is right and one side is wrong.

Life is rarely so binary

I get that you are obviously a halfwit and that, but I feel like I am being unfair to halfwits when I offer that by way of explanation. I mean, you can be absolutely clueless about why things are like they are, and still be sensitive and compassionate, with an instinct for who is the perpetrator and who is the victim. Or you can just watch kids get burnt to death in tents every day for months on end, and still be an utter "both sides" cunt.

It's kind of cute to see another commentary from folk saying "Well yeah, but what about this? And what would you do about it?" without actually giving any backing to their own opinions.

Reshit has come with her friends. She is the daughter of an Israeli soldier who spent months in Gaza and is now fighting in Lebanon. She is friendly, open, eloquent and utterly sure of herself.

So why would you want to live in Gaza?

"Because it's our homeland," she replies. "It says in the Torah that this is our home, this is our land, and we have every right to live there.

"So many soldiers have died in this. We have to keep doing what they started. They died for a reason. They started something. And I think it's our duty for them and for their families to actually keep doing what they started.

"They sacrificed themselves for something so we have to sacrifice ourselves for that thing also."

What, I ask, about the Palestinians who already live in Gaza? What should happen to them? She doesn't miss a beat.

"We should kill them, every last one of them. And if the government won't do that then we should just kick them out. This is our land. And we deserve it."

You can continue to behave like playground bully and try to silence anyone who may have a different view to you, but your hatred for Israel and your desire to see the state removed from existence puts you firmly in the category of being part of the problem.

You think I am a halfwit because I can see wrong by both sides. You think I am a halfwit because I want a peaceful future for the region

Perhaps I'm a halfwit because I am engaging in dialogue without resorting to your tactics of bullying harassment and insults for those who do not agree with you

But of course, it is the Palestinians who are the bloodthirsty lunatics.

Jeezo, if folk think that claud is a bully they must have a seriously thin skin.

Personally I think that repeated requests for clarification, when it's already been offered are more akin to bullying behaviour but I appreciate not everyone will agree there.

I found the full article that quote is from and it doesn't improve matters.

My main thought was how similar it sounded to the whole "immigrants coming to the UK are young healthy men looking to erode our way of life and destroy our country" which so many people seem to get upset about. However it's totally OK for Israel to be doing the same, apparently, which seems wildly hypocritical.
