The way I see it, a Labour leadership election would potentially hand power to the Tories for five years minimum. So like it or not, Starmer is our last, best hope for peace and we need to accept that. What we should do IMO is make as much fuss as we can to work towards tactical voting in the short term and electoral reform in the shape of PR in the longer term. I would hope that those two things are achievable and I'm not sure we can really hope for anything more in the timescale of the next general election.

Do you disagree with any of it? It seems like a fair assessment to me. She's the one to beat and she ain't gonna play fair.
Yes I disagree....She. Is. Thick. As. Feck.
Play fair...tell me something I don't know.

Best hope for peace....Whats that meant to mean ?
Nobody is interested in tactical voting...were sleepwalking into a cost of living crisis that doesn't need to be.
He needs to up his fecking game, support workers and put more pressure on this goverment. He should have been proposing far more than freezing bills, maybe forcing them to do something more.

It's just a throwaway quote from Babylon 5.

Anyway, Starmer's gonna do what Starmer's gonna do and I don't have much influence over that. I certainly hope he can work towards mitigating the worst of the crisis that's about to come but for me the most important thing is to get the Tories out at the next election and to try to restore and improve the level of democracy in this country. I don't see how we can realistically achieve the former without tactical voting, party alliances be the official or not, and potentially a coalition government. I don't see how the latter would work without electoral reform and PR.

To be clear, I would be happy with a Labour majority government. I would be happy with a more left wing Labour government. I would have Starmer as PM or probably any Labour alternative. I would be happy with more socialist policies, better conditions for workers, nationalisation of utilities. But the most important thing is getting the Tories out and restoration and improvement of our democracy, without which none of those things are likely to happen.

At any other time, the departure of Patel, Dorries, Raab, Shapps and Barclay from government would seem like a glorious relief for the country. But then I look at their replacements.....

I thought during the MP part of the leadership race that some pro-Sunak people might have voted for Truss so that Sunak would have a better chance in the final stage rather than facing one of the better candidates

If they did it kinda backfired!!!

Eh? tell me more ;)

A Cabinet where none of the top jobs are held by male, pale and stale politicians should be able to do a brilliant job...shouldn't it?
