I was going by that. I am also aware that you need to research requirement for each destination. Here, they have obviously been sent separate requiring import duty to be paid. This might happen depending on country, country region, and which staff are on duty.

There are lots of strange stories, the US as usual the craziest.

True, but, unless I slept through it, US is not and never has been part of EU, so, nothing to do with Brexit (ie, the subject of the thread).

So you never had to go through customs when entering spain, france, germany, austria etc etc then??? So how did you get into those countries???

I am pretty poor at Geography actually, but, I do know that the US is not in Europe.

Yes, but that's not what 'going through customs' on a holiday or something is it?

A mistake has clearly been made by officials imposing new trade agreement tariffs by the EU. Due to Brexit, they can do this, because we are no longer part the EU.

Sensible answer is that those customs controls were a light touch for both tourism and trade when we were EU members.
Leaving the EU was one thing, but leaving the single market and the customs union has meant reintroducing full customs controls.

Hence the chosen form of Brexit has directly resulted in: well, various/numerous limitations
