Why would you accept a Ukrainian refugee into your home and then moan about bill and food? Surely that was always part of the deal?

The system has been so badly managed and the government is letting everyone down. You get the impression that some people almost felt compelled to volunteer to take in a refugee even when they were woefully unprepared.

There really is nothing you all wouldn't blame the government for is there?

Here we have a lady who the scheme worked for, but instead of pointing out that the grasping old witch of a host saw her as a money making scheme, you blame the government.

Even the Councillor (Green) is not blaming the government for the cash demand.

Really makes you wonder about the mentality of some of our fellow countrymen....

I’m blaming her and the government.

If it had been better organised and properly managed the woman would never have been approved as a suitable host.

So true, potential hosts need to be properly vetted, rather than just sending traumatised refugees to just any potential abuser.

I don’t know about England but potential hosts in Scotland need to have an enhanced disclosure check done first. This would normally cost £25 but the Scottish Government is doing them free of charge and they are being expedited.

Did you miss this bit in the article?

"The deputy leader of Brighton and Hove city council, Hannah Clare, confirmed the council was aware of the case and condemned the government hosting scheme.

“The government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme has been badly put together. Among its flaws is the fact that there is no mechanism for councils to transfer a Ukrainian guest to an alternative sponsor when something like this happens,” she said."

Not to condone the behaviour of the woman who asked for money, but the government have f*cked up the scheme big time.

They even admit it themselves. This is from the latest e-mail which I was sent as a volunteer to give someone a home:

"Some applicants have been waiting nearly three weeks for their visa applications to be progressed or an outcome communicated, and we acknowledge that this is unacceptable. We are speeding up the processing of visas and, having prioritised family visas in the first instance, we are now working to accelerate the award of visas under Homes for Ukraine."

There are dozens of posts on here complaining that the system was too full of checks and balances and it was all taking too long. Now this has happened it is because there were not enough checks and balances and we didn't check into people enough

Make your fucking minds up people.

Although it does rather prove my point that too many of you on here just moan about the government whatever they do. Here is an exact situation of many of you moaning about both sides of the coin. It's funny to watch.

Dissembling again?

The complaints were that if you are *in* a war zone, there shouldn't be a requirement for you to provide copious documents that you don't have in order to get *out* of the war zone.

There is no reason why someone who wants to *host* a refugee should not be subject to proper checking. Their lives are not in danger. Equally, if you wanted to expedite that bit as well, you need to have something in place to help the refugee should the host turn out to be a nutjob rather than hoping the local church will step in.
