When I said "mainstream" I was thinking that those listening and sympathising/agreeing with this TV person would be feeling the views were "normal", held by large numbers, not extreme, not outliers. After all if a popular daytime TV presenter can say such things out loud then nothing radical they should be ashamed of ...

That they were based on untruth and lack of understanding, etc. seems not important to far too many.

Going for the Trump methodology, repeat a falsehood often enough that it becomes an accepted "fact".

Explain what falsehood

No, ITV but he still works for the BBC or at least he was on Radio 2 still a few weeks ago (I assume as a freelancer which I think was also the case with Lineker).

No, Lineker was an employee. That’s why they published his salary.
Freelance talent doesn’t have to publish salary details.

That answers partly, but, how do you know a given set of views are or are not widely held?

I agree that "not party X" is not a solid way to choose a Government, but, that is exactly what happened last time, and, look where we are?

And it’s what happened when Corbyn’s Labour were in opposition, and look where that ultimately landed the Tories…in the wastelands.

You don't. In relation to my point it's more about how comfortable people feel about holding and expressing certain views. If somebody feels their views are extreme, outliers then they'll be more reserved about holding, expressing or acting on (eg going to protests) those views. If they feel those views are more widespread, "mainstream" then they'll he more ready to adopt that position, to hold those beliefs and to act on them eg attending protests.

Seeing people who they regard as "regular moderate people" expressing given views on daytime TV major TV station will encourage them those views are moderate, reasonable, widespread and not extreme outliers so they'll be more ready to adopt those arguments.

Not that I give a fu.ck what Rylan has to say about anything, but your argument appears to be that you don't like hearing from people whose views differ too much from your own? Correct me if I'm wrong. Whether the good people of NCAP like it or not there is a constituency out there for the sort of things that Rylan is saying (how big it is I guess we'll find out at the next election). If he's being disingenuous with the truth then I suppose there's OFCOM, and people are also free to refute his claims in the public square.

Nothing to do with not liking views other than my own. Fair amount of what he said was factually incorrect (he's just absorbed some of the lies being spread).

Plus many of the arguments those suddenly objecting are just madness. I'm not going to be spending my weekend shouting at other houses in the small village I live in. Despite it having a population of only 400 people I don't know where many of them are from, I don't know who they are so why aren't I shouting at their houses to get them thrown out? What rights do the people of Epping (and elsewhere) have to know where everybody inside the country boundary is from and do they know where those white people living in the next street are from?

Discrimination and more specifically racism are not acceptable in our society and objecting to it is not objecting on the basis of not liking "hearing from people whose views differ too much from your own"

People have genuine concerns about the rate of immigration into our country and they don't feel they are being listened to by mainstream parties (who have actively encouraged mass immigration whilst saying they're against it). I don't condone mobs and I'm not about to march down to my nearest asylum hotel with a placard, but there's a lot of anger out there and the mainstream media and body politic would do well to try and understand why.

Edited to add, if another 400 working age men with time on their hands suddenly arrived in your village it might focus your mind.
