Possibly but Eton is a very poor example to use as it is very different to pretty much all other private schools. Generally speaking, Private schools have smaller class sizes and more resource. They often emphasis leadership and independence and focus on ensuring that they get the best out of each pupil. Many are now also providing top quality pastoral care as they take more children with issues such anxiety, high functioning autism, eating disorders etc due to lack of state provision.
My god, they are saints, those private school educators. Saints.

Brings a whole new meaning to “special needs” 😊

One thing I don't understand is Weather Presenters. TV channels continually saying how tight budgets are and advertising is raising less yet they employ dedicated people for a couple of brief appearances to read out the weather forecast they've had some 3rd party company create.

And those same channels demonstrate how unnecessary these "weather presenters" are by some days just not using them and instead putting a graphic on-screen and the news reader tells us the weather forecast.

Even worse is the BBC who seem to employ loads of weather presenters covering their different regions around the country all reading the forecast as purchased from MeteoGroup.

If some days we can survive with a graphic and newsreader giving the forecast why not every day and these hard strapped channels could save themselves salaries, office space, NI contributions, etc., etc.

You could say the same thing about BBC football commentary. They have commentators for one platform and summarises for another, sat next to each other.

Are these commentators actual employees of BBC, ITV, etc, or are they "self employed" contractors? admittedly, vastly overpaid if Lineker is anything to go by.

The BBC news has more 'Special Correspondents' than you can shake a stick at. Often interviewed standing outside closed govt offices in the dark or in exotic locations with no apparent reason as to why they gain more insight from being there. They rarely add value.

Some, maybe most, but I'd say that some of the foreign affairs correspondents are really good. Those that have been at it a while.

I think it's a good point about the weather presenters. It's all quite 20th century. Ripe for replacement with AI.

Bike Radar. Does anyone read it?

Intrigued.

(I don't. I clicked on it randomly for the first time in ages and discovered lots of articles about exciting things like "best bibshorts for every budget" or "how to choose a saddle".)

I occasionally look at it, all the main UK based sites now just seem to be paid reviews and absolutely basic advice that is probably only relevant if you are completely new to cycling. I guess that is the major problem with the 'explosion' of cycling popularity over the past few years, they now have to endlessly churn out content and also try and keep it as broad as possible.

All the training based stuff is the same, endless articles on 'benefits' of Zone 2, "are you overtrained?", how intervals will 'change your life' etc. etc. Most of them are written by people who seemingly barely ride a bike.

Back to this. R4 and R5 have independent people who come on air for 30 seconds every half hour to do the weather. They don't use the same person to use 1 minute every half hour.

R5 also have a travel person who supposedly scours traffic news across the nation for 29 minures and 30 seconds each half hour before telling me helpfully that the M8 in Glasgow is backed up as normal.

In the days of Google maps, national level traffic news that's an hour out of date by the time it's on air seems like a waste of a BBC salary.
