There's a wedding venue on the opposite side of the valley to my house.

I can hear sea shanties at the moment. From the venue on the Devon side of the river.

I assume the newly weds are from London, and are getting married in the county of Devonandcornwallshire.

I should add that we are about as far from the sea as it is possible to get in Devonandcornwallshire.

They should have shut the fark up by 11pm. And it's raining, which is good on many levels.

And this is the second of the 6 kitsch weddings they are allowed to host per year so o ly 4 more to go.

We needed some background music at the end of ceremonies at Falmouth, and my tentative suggestion of shanties was rebuffed with an expletive. The sound guys suggested royalty-free lift music, which was perfect, in fact, and didn't involve any arrrrr-ing at all.

I'm not Cornish, obviously, but I imagine sea shanties are considered by some as a trope, along with parrots.

Not surprised. HMS Pinafore is much classier.

Actually, to be fair, I suspect that G&S is now too niche to be reckernized by more than a tiny proportion of students. OTOH, Dancing Queen for the students to walk out to seems to have gone down treat, and seems to work across the generations.

Maybe they’re all big Theresa May fans?

To be even more niche, my mind immediately went to....

Getting annoyed with idiots on social media banging on about how ‘they’ (no-one seems to quite know who ‘they’ are) turned down a helicopter to fight the local wildfire. The source of this was originally the pilot who ‘they’ didn’t want to pay. Thing is, from those who know about fighting fires, he was offering the wrong tool for the job. Helicopters / planes are good for forest fires, especially in inaccessible terrain but this is a peat fire and the way to deal with that is to flood the ground. Dropping from the air would do very little and a helicopter has far less capacity than the 10,000 litre tankers they are using. But obviously this is a failure of the powers that be and not some guy stirring things up because he didn’t get his pay day.

Out of a sheer sense of masochistic curiosity I've followed the career of arguably the world's worst film maker Uwe Boll for years now. His truly woeful effort at House of the Dead remains the only film I have ever walked out of.

Since then his films have gone from terrible to worse, mostly video game adaptations which bear little if any resemblance to the game. There have been some vaguely decent efforts - Darfur and the Rampage Trilogy, but that's it. Postal was alright I suppose.

Left to my own devices this morning I decided to watch his latest opus, Citizen Vigilante, which is basically a wildly racist and ignorant view of immigration and Europe.

What genuinely pisses me off about this film is that it's been given traction, all of it by Musk. I reckon he genuinely believes the film is based on him as our vigilante is apparently unfathomably wealthy and operates with impunity.

In a bizarre twist, Armie Hammer thought this might be a good comeback film, but goddamn was he wrong. Back to selling timeshares in the Caymans for you.

Ah yes was just reading about this..

Musk takes 'crusade' to Europe with Armie Hammer film

Much of that influence comes via X, formerly Twitter, the social media platform that Musk bought outright in 2022. Since stripping away many of the old Twitter's content moderation rules - derided as censorship by Musk and others - the network has become a haven for far-right beliefs and conspiracy theories.

In turn, X appears to have shaped Musk.
