I think the increasing unwillingness of constituencies to accept out of area candidates is a reflection of how fed up we all are with national politics and all the big parties. People know that Westminister is rotten so they at least want a local candidate who has some interest in the actual area and might prove effective on local issues. I don't know why they even try to get on a shortlist these days when everybody hates parachuted MP's. Who was the last parachuted bod to get elected? I can't remember.
