The huge irony of the HoL is that it did some of its best work during the past few years of Tory rule.

Reform of the HoL is often talked about, but not much happens.

Blair made a big deal about it, abolished right of most hereditary peers to sit in HoL. This was said to be an interim measure pending full reform or abolition. Nothing more was heard on topic, and to date no politicians have come up with a serious plan to carry this through.

It reminds me of politicians calling to abolish the Human Rights Act when in opposition, but not doing it when we n power.

Both sound attractive until you actually try to implement it and realise it's not as easy as your opposition sound bite made it.

As usual, the devil is in the detail

I'm hoping that's a parody account, and not the level of what passes for reasoning in the opposition benches.

He's a comedian.

I don't have a xitter account, so can't see it.

Timpson thinks two thirds of the people in jail shouldn't be there. Not sure how that will go down with the general public. Depends what the alternatives offered are I expect. There are alternatives but they cost money (so does prison obvs) so we'll see what he can come up with.
