Sir Keir Starmer has said his job is different to that of a trade union leader and that he doesn’t want to “lose focus” on getting his party elected.

It comes after weeks of pressure on the Labour leader to allow his frontbenchers to appear on picket lines.

Speaking on Jeremy Vine on 5, Starmer said: “I completely understand why people are voting to go on strike. I understand why they’re struggling. Wages have been stagnant for the best part of 10 years.

“But my job is different. My job is to get a Labour government elected. The single best thing I could do for [the people striking] is to get a Labour government elected.

“I want to be the Labour prime minister. You can’t sit around a cabinet table resolving issues and then walk on to a picket line. They’re different jobs.

“That is the thing that is going to change millions of lives for the better. I can’t lose that focus.”

This means what?

Have you ever constructed a post of your own?

I wouldn't doubt Labour could/should/are ahead in the polls. But once the next turd is elected to the Tories and I'm guessing there going to have to offer something big to the public, besides vouchers for a new kettle.🙄 They'll soon forgive and forget.
What's Labour offering ?

What on earth is the leader of the opposition party supposed to say at a time like this?

Some people are happier to see the Labour Party being seen as a party of perpetual protest rather than a party that wants to get into power.

What do you expect him to say?

Why pretend it's difficult? He didn't need to Tweet it at all - it's his eleventh or twelfth Tweet about the queen's death and he's already got in all the necessary platitudes, photo ops, and prescribed mourning garb. He rarely has anything to say about anything of importance, so no one would notice. His Twitter profile pic is an empty black circle [actually, that's quite fitting - ed.] and his banner is a reverential pic of the queen. He's managed to be abject, insincere, and factually incorrect [f**k you, Therese Coffey], as well as doubling down on the message that he represents not Labour but the establishment or ruling class, and reinforcing the impression that he's a hypocrite. And no one normal uses the word 'Ma'am' unless it's preceded by the words 'Wham' and 'bam'.

He is leader of 'His Majesty's Loyal Opposition'. Of course he has to say the right things at this time, would you really expect to say either nothing at all or tweet something negative about the monarchy?
