Is that true £ 41 ?
Let me check - it was posted by Darren Grimes. Therefore it is not true or not true in the way that he suggests it was true.

This was an 18 year old boy doing something with a 16 year old girl in the woods. There are no details of what the Magistrate heard only that the punishment was a victim surcharge of £41 with a detention and training order for two years. The crime appears to be misreported as rape offences are seen in the Crown Court and carry a minimum sentence of 4 years.

The punishment suggests this was a fairly minor sexual assault. But, as mentioned, no details of the actual charge or circumstance are available.

In Europe and the UK - yes, we have international chaos
That clip of Margaret Thatcher that you posted does not mean what you think it means.
At the time she was speaking, the UK had perfectly legal methods for asylum seekers to claim asylum. We welcomed them and processed them promptly. She was speaking about those who had not engaged with the process - which was usually because they were dodgy.

This bears no comparison to today's situation where every asylum seeker is classified as illegal because the previous Government removed all legal routes of claiming asylum.

Given the time even rape offences take to come to court it's possible that he was under 18 at the time of the offence, which might account for the sentence and why there is no fuller news report available.

There is no apology. I am trying to explain to you in small words that this one sentence does not contain the nuance required to understand the crime or the sentencing and therefore to use it as an example is disingenuous. If it were an actual crime of rape it would have to be tried in the Crown Court not the Magistrates Court.

If it were an actual crime of rape it would have to be tried in the Crown Court not the Magistrates Court.

If the accused pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, they would be seen in the Magistrates and likely be sentenced there and then.

Only if the accused pleaded not guilty to part or whole of the charges, would the case be sent to higher crown court.

So one can rightly presume from the fact the sentence was issued in the magistrates he pleaded guilty.

So £41 for rape is still an insult
