a general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a direct decision.

OK - with that out of the way, yes the SNP did agree that the Scottish referendum of 2014 was a once in a lifetime vote. Sadly they did not have a crystal ball or a psychic that could read the future. In any ordinary timeline, it would have been a once in a lifetime vote. We are not in that ordinary timeline.

The Conservatives led by the ERG engaged in a campaign of untruth and lies which caused us to leave Europe, destabilise the economy, crash the pound, ridicule ourselves in the eyes of the world, wiped billions off the economy and massively increased national debt and made people overwhelmingly poorer.

Scotland did not vote leave. In fact they voted overwhelmingly to remain. 62% vs 38%. Every council in Scotland is a remain council.
Given that Parliament has metaphorically walked up to Scotland and told them to shut their cake-holes whilst simultaneously defecating on their lawn, then smearing shoot all over their houses and stealing their children's dinner money, Scotland feels a little bit aggrieved.

So, given that the grand turd in chief at the time failed to listen to Scotland, failed to listen to Northern Ireland and pissed the economy up the wall, Sturgeon has a clear mandate for another referendum, even if she did once say it was a "once in a lifetime" vote.

The only way to avoid this vote and the break up of the UK, is for the UK Government to turn around and agree with what even the Telegraph are saying which is that we need to rejoin Europe on a Norway type basis - so join the single market, have freedom of movement but satisfy the UK equivalent of the 3rd Reich that we have sovereignty, get someone sane in charge of the country and undo the utter shitshow that Boris et al have created.

We now have conclusive proof that "Project Fear" was actually "Project Sane Reality".

In a nutshell we will never recover financially until we fess-up to national stupidity and start the long walk back to the EU. Whilst this won't satisfy hardliner Scottish nationalists it may sway enough to maintain the Union.

I wouldn't argue that we have any choice, living as we do in a de-facto Tory dictatorship.

I certainly didn't mean it to - you were discussing the referendum & said:

Scottish independence supporters lost that vote - and as I think you know, at the time I wasn't one.

My 'side' won. But on reflection, all of Scotland lost - and I think all the election results here since 2014 show that most of us realise that by now. Regardless of how we vote now or in the future, I don't think there's a route to independence that won't be blocked or dismissed by Westminster. We had one chance - and we blew it.

I'm really not trying to have a go at you or argue - I think you'd know if I was!
