It's perfectly possible for both things to be true. ie. that this is a great moment for the UK Asian/Hindu community, and also that he's not going to be acting in (most) of their interests. I would imagine it's the first bit of her tweet that got her into bother.
Disagree with it if you like but surely she's entitled to her opinion as a British Asian herself ?

Of course she is, but I would imagine it might be considered a bit insulting to the UK Asian community for an MP to suggest that his political achievement isn't worth celebrating, at least in respect of being a 'first'. I think deleting it should have been enough though. It's hardly a disciplinary offence.

I'm guessing it is just an excuse to push out another awkward leftist.

Why on earth should she even delete it?

If she genuinely feels Sunak's achievement isn't a 'win for Asian representation' then I suppose she should leave it up. I would think many in the Asian community feel it is a significant achievement though and might feel Whittome is belittling it simply because he's a Tory. But if Labour want to alienate their voters I suppose that's up to them.

Being Asian is not enough, he has to be the right sort of Asian.

Well yes. Buying your way to anything because you are super-rich isn't really an achievement.

That could apply to any number of politicians...mostly Tories, the majority of whom went to public schools. What has he bought his way to In politics that non Asian Tories (and some Labour MPs) haven't?

Mentioning his race was crass and unnecessary, imo.

Sunak the first ever British Asian PM stood up in parliament and accused Labour of supporting unlimited immigration....you play to the right wing maybe expect a backlash ?
He'll do as much for the average Asians of this country as Thatcher did for women !

We know that. The question was In what way has he 'bought' his premiership as alleged? There are/have been lots of super rich people in parliament, including multi-millionaire Labour ministers/ex-ministers.

Fair enough. I retract my assertion. I had thought that he had done some considerable donating to the Conservative party in order to get to his position. After researching, it appears that he just worked his way up. I suppose in some ways being super rich may be a benefit in that there is really nothing that lobbying groups can offer him in the way of bribes, other than tax avoidance for the missus.

Bought his premiership lol....he was last choice, even Truss beat him.

There is a very small part of me that feels a little sorry for Liz Truss. She set her stall out. She told the party what she would do if chosen. She did it, it got a terrible public reaction, and the Tories were suddenly 'My God .. what are you doing? ... we didn't want this....'.

Which is why I can't see Sunak doing anything too radical for a while. He'll kick the can on big cuts and concentrate on getting inflation under control. I didn't think he would be doing the windfall tax thing but Shell, I think, have just posted mega profits so perhaps he will. It would be popular with voters.
