I suppose that, in my meandering way, I am saying that education and age may not be the only/main cause of the referendum result, but rather were a foreseeable, natural factor that was bound to affect the result, along with the numbers of disaffected people in the country.

Obviously there are many contributory factors to the result but I remember a saying from a training course many years ago "statistics are like bikinis...what they show is interesting but what they hide is essential". (Sorry for the sexism in that saying ).

Yes,many factors. I suspect being educated in an era of empire has quite a lot to do with it, after all the rhetoric was about reclaiming a past glory. Clearly this only applies to people over 55 at time of vote.

It is arguable too that people with higher educational attainment may be less susceptible to specious arguments and dodgy data.

'Starmer should reject advice to be more daring' is possibly the most unnecessary piece of advice since @icowden told me not to rent a car in Dubai.

By 'more daring', I guess he means stuff like (to pull an example totally out of thin air) rail nationalisation?

In case there's anyone who hasn't already clocked what an absolute dickhead Katz is, his article contains these words about the former FM:

How many voters might she have won to the nationalist cause had she measured her tone?

I feel it could almost be a catchphrase for the Starmer supporters "it's good not to be inspirational"
I genuinely feel the country is crying out for a lack of ambition.
Edited to add was there not some sort of Sausage Buffet if I remember rightly, that could of tempted you to Dubai ? Or is that just one of my weird dreams 😁

I've only worked a 4 day week for the last 20yrs, 4x9hrs admittedly.

Out here in the sticks of Holland, a 36-hour, 4-day week on full pay has been the norm for many people for as long as anyone can remember. Some organisations say you can't take the Monday or Friday off, others give you a free choice. Her nibs is free on the Friday, which means I often have to be as well.

Many companies also have an 80:90:100 scheme for older workers: work 80% of your time (i.e. ~29 hours a week), for 90% of your salary but with 100% pension contributions.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
I'm sure there should be sufficient wealth and the technological means to ensure that nobody should have to work forty hours a week.

Remember when automation was going to let us all live a life of leisure while machines did all the work?

It's not by choice, it's the companies work pattern.
As I said you've a good, well paid job.Not everyone is in your position,if your on minimum wage 36 hours can be tough.
Have you done that job since leaving school ? No real reason, just curious.
