So are we saying that the Tories were what we would now consider left wing, prior to the 1970s?

That guy's view is in itself an anachronism because he fails to consider the political context of 1960. The country was only 15 years away from the end of WW2, which had seen the Tories (and Churchill) ejected and a realisation that the working class had fought a war and paid a price in blood on behalf of the ruling class and needed placating, lest they become restive.

There is no doubt that they Tories have recently lurched to the right. They lurched even further withTruss and er weird Maoist approach to policy. But are they more radical than the Thatcher governments? I think not.

In terms of open support of racist policies and soundbites by people like Braverman and Patel I would say they're far further to the right than anyone on Thatcher's orbit ever was.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
It's a smear tactic of calling anyone who disagrees with you 'far left' no matter what their actual argument and despite the fact that the Labour party for example have moved rightward.

Both offering more austerity. Both saying they'll crack down on immigrants. Both refusing to deal with pay rises or supporting striking workers after 13 years of cuts and high inflation.Neither of them will touch nationalization of essential services....
Vote for us because we're not Tories 🙄

As somebody who was there, I can tell you that is total bollocks. Ridiculously so, in fact. Thatcher reintroduced a racist discourse to mainstream politics that had been confined to the far-right fringe for a decade. I remember her talking about the country being "swamped" with immigrants in the run up to the 79 election.

You still don't seem to understand that the main function of political parties is to get elected.

I'm not sure why you don't understand that they would adapt after the 2019 drubbing.

Well let's face it, who would have given money to Corbyn's nutters in 2019??? Guaranteed money down the drain.
Your right.,.although nutters is a odd choice of word ?
Anyway let's cheer on the Billionaires, good to see them crawling back and bury any idea of progressive politics for the foreseeable.

They've never been away. Most of them give to the Tory party. This one giving to Labour is progressive given the Tory grip for what will be 15 years.

Your problem is that you've never heard of Otto Von Bismarck
