Something nasty in the woodshed
Rachel from accounts has found some more money to spend

This time on trams, buses and trains outside of London

I thought she was skint with a 22bn black hole

If the same amount was being spunked on 'high speed intercept craft' with black, gleaming weaponry, so Are Brave Boys could zoom across the Channel, machine-gunning dinghies full of terrified refugee kids, you know you'd be giving yourself friction burns frotting yourself into a coma over it. Wouldnt you?

Money well worth spent on speedy gunboats😁

This is going to blow your mind, but the Police have to manage civil unrest. You won't believe it but there are racist morons out there who will start rioting and blaming skin colour / religion as soon as they hear a name that doesn't sound western or see skin that isn't white.

Thus it makes sense to name the chap who ran over pedestrians but not Axel Rudacana.

The other complication with Axel was that at the time of arrest he was under 18 and had some extra protection from being named.

Starmer is enabling foreigners to claim £1,000,000,000 in benefits per month.

You lot are subsidising this unsustainable fund.

People's media will have a field day with this. No way is Labour going to survive endless disasters, which are almost daily

How are those foreigners counted?

They seem to include wives/partners of indigenes.

What relevant changes have been made since July 2024 that mean Starmer 'enabled' this.

I deal with Welfare Rights for a job and I'm sure I'd remember if, say, no public funds conditions for many new arrivals had been removed.

You would expect people fleeing war zones to include a reasonable spread of men and women of various ages, plus children. However based on the pictures we see of the numerous small boats making the crossing, the people in these boats are predominantly younger men. Why do you think that is?

Jeez, how many times do we need to repeat this.

A simple start point. Men of military age are likely to be conscripted. If not by 'legitimate' recognised governments then by the opposing militias. Read about what happened in Syria where young men were the first to be rounded up. Do you remember the massacre in the Balkans after Yugoslavia imploded.

Secondly journeying to Europe from (say) South Sudan is a massively hazardous thing. Being in the Channel in an open boat where Border Force will probably pick you up is one of the easier bits. How many die crossing the Sahara or the Med? Using young men as 'scouts' in hazard has a history as long as the Human Race.

By contrast in many cases womenfolk who keep a low profile and clean noses are usually left alone.

Yup. Marry someone from India and have a baby in the UK after your wife has become a citizen, she will be entitled to maternity benefits even though she is a foreigner. Terrible isn't it?

Fact checkers suggest that the overall benefits claimed by foreign nationals have actually reduced since Labour came to power. GB news , the Telegraph and Times managed to forget to mention this. What a silly oversight!

Many Afghans prefer not to tortured or killed by the Taliban. Many Iraqis, Iranians and Syrians have strong opinions about being repressed, tortured and killed. Many Sudanese are finding the balmy atmosphere of a civil war non condusive to living if they get conscripted to fight. Same goes for the Eritreans.

The only migrants likely to be economic migrants are the small numbers of Vietnamese - and the govt is working with Vietnam to try and address that.

Anyway - why don't you enlighten us as to how you would stop the small boats?

I'm sure there are plenty of other places where they won't be tortured etc. That is, the ones who are not economic migrants.

I'm not an expert in how to deal with these things but for starters we could stop being so generous to illegal arrivals (hotel accommodation, benefits etc). And have a decent deterrent such as holding them in detention or an offshore location, or where it is clear that they are not here to escape mortal danger, a speedy return to their country of origin.

At least we have now got the French to do what they agreed and intercept small boats in the water on their side of the channel.
