Might be worth reminding ourselves that the next election is four years away.
It is but also people can be resistant to changing their minds. Decide now to switch to eg Reform and they don't like to rethink "I made a bad choice" so can overlook failing in their new choice and be swept along is every bit of good news.

But sudden events can change things (eg wars) but allowing supporters to drift away can be difficult to get them back nearer election time.

In Starmer's case, every fück up is just ammunition for opponents next election. "We won't take Winter Fuel Allowance from vulnerable pensioners", etc.

That doesn't quite work otherwise all those who voted for Starmer would be unlikely to switch. They may well vote for change and be very, very disappointed though. Reform will never be the answer. That doesn't mean they won't win, Trump did.

That's right not every constituency had a thumping majority for Labour.

All the cities wards will be filled with enough far left Jezbollah (new party nickname) voters to wipe out tiny majorities for labour MPs

This could turn into labour's worst nightmare, bleeding moderate redwall voters to Reform whilst losing the crazy far left to Corbyn.

It is, but the national finances are in such a parlous state I wouldn't rule it out that Starmer has to go to the country before then (or it might even be Rayner who has to call an early election because it's easy to imagine Starmer being driven out).

Certainly not impossible, though a change in government would just dump the same problem on someone else, and I don't see any viable plans or competence elsewhere... the only noise is about immigrants, and we need them.

I think Starmer/Reeves just tried that and all politicians can see where that got them.

We're all complicit, to a degree - politicians, the media, and the electorate. The politicians wouldn't keep on promising unicorns if we didn't keep on voting for them. Sadly I can't see a way to break the cycle.

Twas probably ever thus, but the political & media environment seem to have amplified the deleterious effects of the dishonesty. We vote for unicorns, the unicorns don't arrive, so we get even more cynical about politicians. And that's where the populists step in, pretending that only *they* can make things better, when, of course, they will just accelerate the descent to chaos.

Welcome to my world! 😂😉
Next step is to acknowledge that you can't affect that bubble so just go about your business of enjoying your bubble to the max.

I came to that conclusion too, with a couple of reservations. I'll try to be a tiny force for good in my own little world and I'll vote for the party I find least offensive.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at. The vast majority of people are decent, kind people. Unfortunately the people who aren't decent and kind have a habit of making a lot of noise about it and trying to screw it up for everyone else. Ho fücking hum.
