Strictly speaking he's right that nurses can earn up to band 9, however that's rare which makes it unlikely that the spouse of whoever it was that made the point we're debating is earning that much.

So yes I do think he was being provocative because I think it's more likely that said spouse is somewhere within bands 8b-8c.

I may be wrong on the specifics but the only point I was ever trying to make is that the salary for a nurse in a senior position can exceed 40k by some margin.

Yes. Daughter No1 is a Nurse in a Senior position (NHS), no idea what pay band she is on, but, she earns comfortably over £40k. Not saying she isn't worth it.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
google may have been, but i wasnt........

Google was correct in what it told you* but you need to consider what question it was answering and then interpret that answer in context.

*I expect. It seems about right. All it's done is drag a website that seemed vaguely appropriate.

I think that some of the lower paid do deserve a rise, in fact I probably do for what I do and the knowledge I have.
From this....
I think they would get more support if nurses simply refused to treat any MPs until they all get together and sort out the pay?
To this 🙄
BUT, the RCN leading nurses into this strike is foolhardy and unwinnable.
Unwinnable...they deserve your support.

Honestly. How many times?

BUT, the RCN leading nurses into this strike is foolhardy and unwinnable. It seems pages ago now that I said nurses striking seems like a great idea, right up until someone who shouldn't have died dies, and if they happen to be a baby we are truly screwed. Any goodwill will vanish like a morning mist. Like some other occupations, nurses should not strike.

I think they would get more support if nurses simply refused to treat any MPs until they all get together and sort out the pay?

You've well and truly backed yourself into a corner there (what a shock)! The strike action by nurses that took place in Northern Ireland in 2019 was the very last resort and had to occur. It's their experiences being sought and recommended as a guide by the RCN (but you DID know that, didn't you?) now that the exact same scenario that forced Northern Irish nurses to strike is apparent in England and Wales.

The RCN are the least militant and most conciliatory of all unions (my wife's in Unison) and are always very slow to recommend strike action so now that they have, it's a sign that action needs to be taken. And this needs to be addressed very seriously and very, very quickly.

I see the right-wing press have mobilised to undermine public confidence in the nurses so that their paymasters end up richer for the coming fight.

Why am I in a corner?

The nurses in NI went on a limited strike for 12 hours. Then they agreed to a match of the rest of the UK deal, less than what they wanted. So that went well.

There is also the issue of how the NMC may see any strike action. They are saying it is the right of nurses to go on strike, but that at all times The Code applies to any NMC registered member of staff.

Not surprised at all.

Despite all the flak I got at the time on the P&O thread, I told you all that no-one would really give a toss about the sacked sailors and would carry on using P&O anyway because they are convenient and cheap.
Lots of you said people would vote with their feet and not use P&O ferries or their parent company shipping.

Well one of us was right eh?
