Where did you search for total nursing workforce? It is 360,000 not 3 million.

We went to school at the same time, in the good old days before calculators, and the way I was taught meant that 1% of 360,000 is 3,600 not 30,000.

40,000 is approx 11% of 360,000.

A bit of a difference, and significant in a job which has a long training/qualification period.

The biggest proportion of leavers by far are those nurses aged 25 - 34.

Edit: @stowie beat me to it.

I think @newfhouse house was first actually, nice to see some people are awake however.

I will have to think about that one, I am having difficulty thinking what other life event frequently happens in that age bracket.

I didn't say you did. I said, I looked up the figure, to work out the %ge. Only @newfhouse was awake. ;)
Lol....keep digging.I didn't question your figures. You were the one that chose to say it was 1%.You got it wrong....wildly wrong big deal.Cant say it really interested me either way.
Have you a actually got a opinion in any of this though ?

My maths might be letting me down, but if 30,000 is 1% then the total number of NHS nurses is 3M? That seems... a lot since I recall total number of NHS staff at a bit over 1M.

I think 30,000 is closer to being 10% but haven't checked figures.

I think @newfhouse was awake before you, but, well done for keeping up ;)

Just watching some clips of Mick Lynch upsetting Richard Madeley, Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan amongst others lol....surely that alone deserves some support !
Alan Sugar ffs....
"Mick Lynch loves the cameras. He got stitched up by @GMB today. Next thing is he will be doing strictly or appearing on Graham Norton. Any one know how much he is paid."

30,000 sounds a lot, but, it is approximately 1% of the nurse workforce. Not remarkable IMHO.

That would imply that there's 3 million NHS nurses. One in twenty for the whole UK population, which seems rather high. Perhaps you ought to check your workings? And your sources.

Edit: I appear to be adding my voice to a veritable chorus here - looks like there's a few professional data wranglers in this remote corner of the internet...

My question was about the effect of real terms pay cuts on recruitment and retention. Are you willing to address that?

Of course. Sorry for the delay, I have spent nearly two days planning for the strikes!

Most jobs in the NHS are hugely over applied for, people are desperate to join the NHS workforce. We advertised a few months ago for an administrator, Band 5. Over 100 applications, which doesn't strike me as a place where recruitment and retention are issues.
