Twitter under Musk....

What he did was put his hand on his heart and then throw his arm out towards the audience. Something dozens of public figures and politicians have done before him, including Biden and Harris. I'm sure you guys will have seen the full video not just the still photos, but it's more fun to pretend Musk was doing a Nazi salute and chuck the word round like confetti.

In politics it's crucial to provide clear messages not open to misunderstanding. Given his recent high profile support for AfD in Germany the widespread interpretation of his salute is reasonable. He's in politics now; if he isn't ip to the job then he should find a career he's better suited to.

Buy a company for US$44bn and run it down to a valuation of US$19bn within a few years highlights his business prowess. Nazi salutes whilst supporting AfD shows his political prowess. Must be something useful he can do.

He has said the price of free speech is worth it. It is virtually No1 news feed across the globe.

Here is Tim Walz doing the Nazi salute 🫡

There's a hundred pictures of public figures doing the same gesture, and with not even the hand on heart precursor, so it's pretty clear the 'Nazi salute' is your uncharitable interpretation. Unless you think everyone from Nelson Mandela to Bill Clinton wasn't suited to the job either.

Musk massively overpaid for Twitter so no surprise that it's now valued at less than he paid. It was never worth that. His impulse purchase has obviously cost him money.

You mean the type of "free speech" where journalists are blocked on Xitter for reporting stuff unfavourable to right wing politicians eg note how quickly many left leaning reporters had their Xitter accounts blocked at the request of Modi and Erdoğan when each was campaigning for reelection. Seems only selective political viewpoints are free to speak, at least on Musk's platform.

Plus his driving so much activity to other platforms, plus turning it into a cesspit driving paying advertisers away, etc.

Before Musk purchase, the left loved Twitter, censor the right.

Now it's a free for all, sure some get blocked, bet not of half as many pre Musk.

Large swathes of left have voluntarily left, because they don't like uncensored replies.

I see everything, left, right, weird, horrific and funny.

Thank goodness for X

Call Musk anything you want, he is an arseh*le and deserves it, but anyone can see from the way he was jumping around on this stage and previous stages with Trump that he is a physically awkward clutz. It was not a deliberate Nazi salute but a crap attempt at acknowledging the crowd. I have no sympathy for him but can recognise that this is a (sometimes) deliberate misinterpretation by those who dislike him and his closeness to Trump.

This is not an actual job or career change for him, but a means to an end...the end of self-promotion and benefitting his business ambitions.

Quite a few reporters making reports unfavourable to Modi and Erdoğan when each was campaigning for reelection had their accounts blocked at the request of the respective campaigns. That is not freedom of speech but rather freedom to support Musk's right wing politics.

So Xitter's "freedom of speech" is free as long as your views align with Musk's otherwise it's censored.

Sorry but that is not Freedom of Speech.

More free than Facebook by a country mile.

Zuckerberg has openly (Joe Rogan podcast) acknowledged they suppressed post at the request of Bidens team.

Afriad that is whataboutery. Just because there might be somewhere worse is irrelevant to our discussions of Xitter. You could say that the Conservative Party Newsletter is worse than Xitter but that doesn't say anything about Freedom of Speech mor about Xitter.

nb I have no idea about Facebook bias as I avoid being a product for Zukerberget's data amalgamation ...

You may have missed that Andy doesn't actually understand how social media works, but he made it inescapably clear during his first incarnation on this forum.

I don't really agree with that. I think he is fully aware of the symbolism, how could he not be? I think it was deliberate. At best, he was trolling so he could 'drink libs tears' or whatever puerile shît he is into. At worst? Well he has been promoting the AfD in Germany, and openly far-right party, and the overrall context is the arrival of an administration that previously attempted a violent coup to overthrow an elected government and has just freed its actual-fascist participants, and has been engaging in pretty extreme authoritarian messaging.

You could argue that that is in no way different from Trump, or indeed many political leaders. ;)

Apparently Elon is "furious" that his Wikipedia page refers to his Nazi salute and a Nazi salute

He has said that Wikipedia should be "defunded" - not exactly sure that this means what he thinks it means

anyway - that reminded me - I have not donated anything to Wikipedia for quite a while -

so I went right off and did so

and if lots of other people do the same then I'm sure Elon will recognise this as a statement by the member of the public and a very valid form of free speech

or it might just really piss him off

so - anyway - anyone wants to do so just search for "Wikipedia donate"
I couldn;t find an obvious like on their home page - which was also a refreshing difference to a lot of sites!!

Having read the relevant page, I actually think it is very balanced! (and of course may well change over time) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_...e_2025_Donald_Trump_presidential_inauguration

An example of no publicity is bad publicity for WIkipedia - even though IMO it is in fact very positive publicity. No lib tears here on this issue :P
