Jury selection starts on Friday in the Georgia RICO trial featuring "captain of Team Crazy" the Texas based lawyer Sidney Powell and constitutional lawyer Ken Cheseborough. Both asked for speedy trials, which one suspects, they might now be regretting. The jurist overseeing the hearing Judge McAfee, has ordered the jury to be anonymous because of Trump's outbursts against the District Attorney and elsewhere. The trial, as with other Georgia trials, will be televised.
Both Powell and Cheseborough have been filing a flurry of motions to dismiss the hearing, all of which have been rejected by Judge McAfee. Powell or her attorney seem to be copying and pasting part of at least one motion from other applications, as she also applied for dismissal of offences for which she hasn't been charged.
Judge McAfee appears to have some wit. In one of his responses to a Cheseboro motion, he referenced Monty Python's dead parrot sketch, whilst in another motion in which Cheseborough referenced the legislators' intention, in his response McAfee included the comment, like nailing jello to the wall.
15,000 emails previously thought to have been lost and linked to the co conspirator Misty Hampton, have now been found. Hampton is closely linked to Powell, and it will be interesting to see if these impact upon the imminent trial and the other co conspirators.
Elsewhere in Trump world, John Laurro, the attorney for Trump who appeared before Judge Chutkan in the Washington DC hearing the other day, at which a partial gag order was issued against Trump, has filed an appeal against the partial gag order. However, the appeal did not even reach the desk of an appeal justice. It was rejected by the administration team on the grounds that Laurro was not an authorised attorney for the Washington DC appeals circuit. Probably easily rectifiiable, but I would have thought pretty basic stuff for a highly paid lawyer. A bit like Trump's lawyer Alina Habba not requesting a jury trial for the civil fraud trial.
