What happens if Nuclear war happens & my house is still stood? Do I still have to pay a mortgage & would we get Furlough?
Also would Sheffield & Leeds be targeted?
I think it would be best to die quickly than struggle through a Nuclear winter.
Watch 'Threads' for your answer.

Actually, don't. It's utterly depressing.

Back in the 80s we never got one of those protect and survive leaflets. My mum says she thinks it's because Aldershot would have been obliterated in a first strike so there was no point.

I'm in Sheffield now of course. I have watched Threads.

I'm in Glasgow, about 30 miles away from the nuclear submarine base at Faslane. If Putin draws us into a nuclear war and attacks key sites in Scotland then I will be toast, along with at least 500,000 other souls.

And that, of course, with its half-dozen comedy Brexit nukes, is the only place in the UK that's worth him bothering to target.

Hardly going to be Russian-owned Londongrad, is it?

Well, they might want to take out the naval base less than three miles from me…particularly if one or both of the carriers are in port.

Leave them to talk and sort it out , which they are doing. In the meantime use sanctions and stop all the macho posturing,

Are your boots on the ground yet or are you being brave from a great distance and hoping that other people go die on your behalf ?
Innocent people, men, women of all ages, children are being indiscriminetely murdered daily. They didn't sign-up for that.
If you sign-up for the military, fighting and death goes with the territory.
HOWEVER, my point was that had NATO learned from the annexation of Crimea and heavily mobilised (learning from Putin's playbook) we might not be in this mess at all. And assuming Putin invaded anyway, having the full weight of NATO forces opposing Putin, might have saved a lot of innocent lives.
The longer this goes on, the bigger the bloodbath....

I remember reading about a “Neutron Bomb”, quite a long time ago, so have forgotten the details, but, I think the idea was, it killed the people, but, left the buildings standing. Ideal for property owning oligarchs I would think.

Though it looks very dated now it still hits hard and deep.

The podcaster Atomic Hobo did a brilliant run of podcasts on Threads. She also did a great comparison of the UK's plans pre and post the H bomb era
She looks at atomic conflict from a social/sociological point of view which gives a refreshing way of looking at the subject.
I'm a big fan.

I’ve heard that after all these sanctions & cancel culture we are still buying 2 billion £ worth of gas from Russia.
I bet when BrExit happened Putin laughed & drank champagne.
What will happen is Russia will take a few countries without much resistance then in 2 years start building diplomacy back up with everyone. Our government are a bunch of self serving criminals who constantly lie & can’t be trusted with anything.

That seems to be a story in the Times, but I don't know whether it has any provenance due to their paywall. We aren't reliant on Russian gas and didn't buy any at all until 2017.
