War with Russia

Is anybody else bothered by the Polish govt wanting to donate old Soviet Migs to the Ukraine to give them the ability of fight back in the air? I don't know if the ruse to get them to the Ukraine via sovereign US territory at Ramstein air base will really work, and am inclined to hope the Americans don't go along with it. Considering Putin's state of mind this could be massively destabilising and lead to the war spreading if Putin takes reprisals against Poland.
Why can't Ukranian pilots go and collect them from Poland?

I think the US have now quashed this idea.
The Polish have a history of helping with air defences.
There was a Polish spitfire squadron in the Battle of Britain.

They can it's just that they are not allowed.

Correct, but there's more to it, the bottom line is that Navo/Nato is trying to stay out of this war although they have already entered it.(Turkish ship downed, Estonian too both trade ships but still, they should have triggered it by now)
If you close read the US response then what they say is it ill trigger article 5 so force nato into joining the war.
So they want every Nato member to agree on this, and that why they refused.

Partly Nato's position is understandable on the other hand, they have to do something and the time is running out. Like most government officials in Poland and neighboring countries say, if we don't enter now we will be when they invade an Nato country and that's not a question of if but more like when.
Like i said before we need to take the battle to Russia not because we like it not because of Ukraine, but because we need to stop Putin before we are to late, like we where in the Second world war. And about Putins Nuclear thread, Tjernobyl is without power, that is the second possible nuclear incident in just 2 weeks of war they need to be stopped, before it goes wrong.

We can't take the fight to Russia. Ignoring the piddly little Nuclear threat NATO just isn't ready despite all the chest thumping!

The US would need to move thousands of Tanks, Trucks, APC's, Choppers, Soldiers, Jets, Artillery etc etc... It's a logistical hell! It can be achieved, but not any time soon. There is so much to consider that i could bore you sorry arse's all day! Take this as an example East Europe has shite bridges and can't handle the big Abrams tanks and its larger artillery pieces https://nationalinterest.org/blog/reboot/biggest-obstacles-us-tanks-europe-are-its-bridges-193402 This is just about bridges! It turns out there may be method in the madness of the smaller, lighter Russian tank... Then of course there is widespread disarmament and defence policy changes in Europe since the fall of the Soviet Union. Which in my opinion, needs to be reversed and we see some leadership from Germany in that department, since their armed forces are in very much need of investment...

We are facing the biggest threat in Europe since the Cold War times yet the US shifted focus away from Europe well over 20 years ago with the promise of peace on our continent. There is still what many of us would consider a sizeable force in Europe but to counter a full on army that is likely more adept to the terrain and with Chemical, Biological and Nuclear weapons? Before the US unzips its fly and hip thrusts like the bee gees to the nearest Russian there is much to consider, which for once, i think we should be glad about and prepare correctly and accordingly whilst treading lightly. I reiterate the need to be prepared for all possibilities rather than just hope Putin is only interested in Ukraine... There is nothing i'd want more than to save Ukrainians, impose a no fly zone, stick thousands of troops in and defend them. But lets get real, aside from it being too late for the troops part, with the points i make above we really need to look at the wider picture and see how Putin deals with economic collapse and leadership threat. We may not have to do any fighting, but on the flip side, it might make him or whoever proceeds him incredibly dangerous...

Well he’s right. Either surrender the Ukraine & hope Putin stops there or take the fight to Russia.
It's EXACTLY this attitude that will see the war no sane person wants to see.

It's all zero-sum mentality now; to prove we've won, they've got to lose. The more they lose, the bigger our victory. Where are the hardline negotiators in all of this offering win-win outcomes instead of all the tub-thumping, rabble-rousing careerists?

I'd prefer to see Putin approached with offers to ease some of the sanctions, growing proportionately with their easing/ceasing of all fighting. Take more aid to the beleaguered Ukrainians, more sanctions lifted. Surely his oiligarchs would pressure him to accept this as they want back on the money-go-round.

We scare him with losing face, he'll grow more belligerent, it's the obvious nature of the beast. As he has weapons of terrifying capability, we need to act accordingly instead of constantly poking him and hurling abuse.

If you take the fight to Russia you risk reprisals, this will sound harsh, but the MOD and the government's responsibility is first to British citizens.

If we get involved directly, then you could have missile strikes on UK cities, and if you think we have the anti air capability to stave off a sustained attack then you're mistaken, also if we initiate hostilities with Russia then forget article 5 being invoked after we started the fight.

If you think potential nuclear war is something to be shrugged off, watch the day after from 1983.

...or Threads or for a more up-to-date example of the horrific effects of a nuclear explosion, watch the doc-drama Chernobyl and see in graphic detail just what it's like to die OF radiation contamination.
