Hmm… so, it isn’t possible to confess and apologies BEFORE being caught?

Boris Johnson caught in yet another lie.

It seems to be so natural for him. I heard someone remark on the radio or telly recently that Johnson can't get to the end of a sentence without lying.

The Conservative Party has been fined £17,800 for failing to keep proper records over a donation to refurbish Boris Johnson’s Downing Street flat.
An Electoral Commission investigation found that the party failed to fully report a donation of £67,801.72 from Huntswood Associates Limited in October 2020, including £52,801.72 connected to the costs of refurbishment to 11 Downing Street – where the Prime Minister lives.
Crucially, it found that Johnson knew who was providing the funding – despite the Tory leader having previously insisted to his ethics adviser that he did not know.
Louise Edwards, director of regulation at the Electoral Commission, said: “Our investigation into the Conservative Party found that the laws around the reporting and recording of donations were not followed.
“We know that voters have concerns about the transparency of funding of political parties.
“Reporting requirements are in place so that the public can see where money is coming from, inaccurate reporting risks undermining trust in the system.
“The party’s decisions and actions reflected serious failings in its compliance systems.
“As a large and well-resourced political party that employs compliance and finance experts, and that has substantial sums of money going through its accounts, the Conservative Party should have sufficiently robust systems in place to meet its legal reporting requirements.”
But the commission said that in donation records submitted on January 27, 2021, while the party reported the £15,000 from Huntswood Associates, it failed to report the £52,801.72.
The commission also concluded that the reference in the party’s financial records to the payment of £52,801.72 made by the party for the refurbishment was not accurate as it was referred to as a “blind trust loan”.
However a trust to refurbish the flat had not been created.
The report found that Johnson sent a WhatsApp message to Lord Brownlow in November 2020 asking for more funds for the refurbishment.
However, during an investigation in May, the PM told his ethics adviser that he was not aware who was behind the funding.

Makes you wonder who recorded it....and why was it only released now ? Same for Handcock.
On The Media Show yesterday they were talking to Pippa Crerar from the Mirror, and the chap from ITV, forgive me I've forgotten his name, about the timelines of breaking the stories and why they chose to do it when they did etc. Turns out they had each had the scoops for some time before deciding that the time was right to release them. It's an interesting listen. They, of course, do not reveal their sources.

Boris, on the other hand, is made of sterner stuff.
He got his apology in early at PMQs for a video which was nothing to do with him.

That's one way to paint it. Another point of view is that Boris got his apology in early at PMQs having realised he had a great scapegoat lined up.
"wasn't me guv - it was the girl wot done it".

It is one way to put it, but Boris hasn't admitted anything so he was apologising on behalf of someone else.

I'm surprised they claim to have had the material for some time, because when you get hold of something as juicy as this you are on permanent tenterhooks for fear of someone else breaking it.

Everyone in my game can tell tales of having a decent exclusive ready to go, only to wake up and find it splashed all over the front of one of the others.

If ITV had the footage before the Mirror published, more fool them for allowing themselves to be scooped.

I'd actually be quite interested to hear one of your tails of having a decent exclusive yourself then finding it splashed over the front page of a rival.

Boris is a twat, yeah, too right, like, like, like, Boris is a shithouse as well, spot on, like like letc ad nauseam.
Don't be disheartened, you get a regular like for having a go at loser, whining lefties.
Lots of people are thoroughly unimpressed by nasty personal abuse of public figures, whoever that figure is.
Lots of people were impressed by nasty personal abuse of Jeremy Corbyn, apparently, or does it just apply to Tory public figures.
She has had to resign only because she was outed something that a more media savvy operator would not have allowed to happen because there would be nothing to out in the first place.
Why don't you volunteer to give the Tory lass, with her long history of working at very high levels in national television and newspapers, the benefit of your expertise.

"Stratton worked for The Guardian as a political correspondent until joining the BBC in 2012, where she was political editor of BBC Two's Newsnight from 2012 to 2016. She worked for ITV as national editor of ITV News from 2016 to 2018 and co-presenter of Peston on Sunday from 2016 to 2018.

After leaving journalism, Stratton became a Conservative Party political advisor. She was Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Director of Strategic Communications at the Treasury from April until October 2020 when she became the press secretary for 10 Downing Street. In April 2021 she was appointed as spokesperson for COP26 President Alok Sharma."

Take too long, but I could bore you to tears about stuff like that if we ever ended up on the same ride.

Pffft, What does she know about media savvy?

About as much as you, given the bonfire she's made of her professional reputation.

I seem to remember a double hit procedure - was it Barnard Castlegate? - where one news outlet breaks the story and another follows up. I'd keep my eyes on the Mirror.

Come on, even you can do better than that.

I find it quite amusing the way you quickly respond in kind to any perceived slight, but are unable to reply with anything remotely substantive when you are asked to give your views on a particular policy or action of this government.

As a person who had a very happy childhood I quite like, in a nostalgic way, how disagreements with you always rapidly revert to infant school spats about "well you started it..didn't...did" until the bell goes and we have to go back to class.

What is this obsession with my character?

It's bordering on creepy.

Every post you make is littered with snide remarks and ignorant inaccuracies.

You seem to be another one who cannot grasp that I will post and reply to what I like.

What part of that is so difficult to understand?
