At the controls of my private jet.
As Chic may have sang "Last night a pelmet saved my life from some glass"
OK, that's enough.
Urgent measures are called for.
Henceforth anyone trying to post a funny thing must run their effort past me for approval prior to letting it into the world.
It's for your own protection.

As self appointed arbiter of all things I think you'll find the position already filled.

Can any of our defenders of conservatism come up with an explanation of why it is not blatant opportunism and double standards for conservative MPs:
- to vote against Covid Passports on the grounds that it is an infringement of civil liberties to have to produce ID to go about your life in this country
but
- to vote to introduce compulsory ID for elections?

Or to vote to remove the citizenship of up to 5 million people?
Or the removal of our freedom of movement?
Or the removal of people’s right to peaceful protest?

And they say they're pro-freedom? Very much the opposite.

Nothing has changed since Tom Robinson released this in ~1978, then along came Thatcher....

"Today, institutions fundamental to the British system of Government are under attack
the public schools, the house of Lords, the Church of England, the holy institution of Marriage, even our magnificent police force are no longer safe from those who would undermine our society, and it's about time we said 'enough is enough' and saw a return to the traditional British values of discipline, obedience, morality and freedom.
What we want is
Freedom from the reds and the blacks and the criminals
Prostitutes, pansies and punks
Football hooligans, juvenile delinquents
Lesbians and left wing scum
Freedom from the niggers and the Pakis and the unions
Freedom from the Gipsies and the Jews
Freedom from leftwing layabouts and liberals
Freedom from the likes of you"

Power in the darkness
Frightening lies from the other side
Power in the darkness
Stand up and fight for your rights

Nothing has changed since ... 1978
Nitpicking, but I'm not sure that's true, equal marriage being just one example of progress. I think these things are like a succession of rolling hills and we're currently on a downward section of road.

Progressive social changes are uncomfortable for many that lean to the right and are therefore under attack. Privilege seeks to protect itself. Add to that the simple numerical value to politicians of sowing division and you can see why there is a regressive pressure.

And to reference the thread title, whipping up hatred of the disadvantaged is generally a good way to divert attention from your own sleazy conduct.

Nitpicking aside, the general gist is the same today....

Dominic Raab is to outline a sweeping overhaul of human rights law that he claims will counter “wokery and political correctness” and expedite the deportation of foreign criminals.

Well it's good to see the priorities this govt. has, it's like Gammon's last stand....
