Something nasty in the woodshed
Well, listening to the opinions of the vast majority on here which I gather are mostly 'left leaning ' at best, I rarely hear something I agree with so on that basis I doubt I would be of the same ilk.
Thank you. It is of interest to me to have some insight into how well people understand the overarching political and social philosophies of the political parties to whom they either lend or deny their vote. Those philosophies define much of the fabric of the lives we are able to live under the governments we elect.

For what it's worth, I have never voted either Labour or Tory.

Now whether these things ever happen is another matter but they sounded good to me.

Of course they will happen, the very first words are Boris saying "I guarantee", so that's a promise and we all know Boris keeps his promises.

Nurses and police numbers. They are needed due to tory cuts over the last decade as you no doubt know. 50,000 nurses is nowhere near enough due to a combination of a decade of cuts and the effect of Brexit. But as you like to say, you knew you were voting to reduce the effectiveness of the NHS.

Immigration, yes we badly need skills, like nurses in the NHS, however the points system is set so that a nurses salary excludes them from qualifying to work here.

Reaching net zero by 2050. They talk a lot about it. Let's hope that is followed by action.

Not raising income tax, Vat, or national insurance.......

Well that's a broken promise right there and the started purpose of it being to fund social care is unlikely to come to fruition. (I have no particular problem with this broken promise as in theory it should be to the good)

And while we're on social care, how about the promise that under new proposals no one will have to sell their home to fund their care?

Turns out after they watered down those provisions to ensure the already wealthy got a better deal out of it they can no longer make that promise..

Same story from all parties to a certain extent and you know it, you seem to think it particularly bothers me though?
As already stated, you pick whoever you think is in line with your way of thinking then vote accordingly.

I'm sure I could dig up plenty of broken promises from Labour's last shot at it, the NHS reform being one of them, but I've got more important things to occupy my thoughts.

Wolves away at Brighton tonight being one of them, pub is calling.
D'you know, I actually quite agree with you there. It is because I think that the current shitshow is entirely in line with what i always understood to be conservative thinking (and not because of any specific broken pledges) that i never ever have and never ever will vote for them.

Do you really think the promises made by any of them are always upheld?

No. Not always. But the tories do it for fun.
How did we get to a 20% VAT rate.
Probably to make up for Gordon Brown knocking 3% off the basic Income Tax rate ?

We can argue all day long about who's good and who isn't.
