Rees-Mogg today:

I would say the same about Partygate. All of that is shown up for the disproportionate fluff of politics that it was, rather than something of fundamental seriousness about the safety of the world and about the established global order.

When we look back in 36 years at Partygate, people will think, ‘What were they on about? They were moving from Covid to Russia and Ukraine, yet they were distracted by whether or not the PM spent five minutes in his own garden.’ It’s fundamentally trivial.

The 2022 Good Day To Bury Bad News?
Let us decide if it was "disproportionate fluff", matey-boy.
You forget, he really doesn't care about what we think....

[Another] Rees Mogg's Marie Antoinette moment?

Off with his head, and display it on a spike. Let's see if nanny can make that better.

Unbefuqing beleevable isn't it ,
Except there seem to be no depths to which this current lot won't stoop.

One of the things Ukraine would like to be *free* to do is consider join the EU ..

And I hope they do, if that's what they want..

I think they'd quite like to be free of being invaded, and bombed to bits by a murderous despot, and his henchmen too.

The same murderous despot that had his already bloodied fingers, interfering in the brexit referendum.

The same gang in fact who profit from our 'light touch' ' look the other way' attitude to money laundering, and human rights abuses .

It's almost as if it's all interconnected 🤔

For someone with such an elite - and expensive - education, Johnson has a remarkable lack of class.

Johnson realises that he has managed to deflect from PartyGate with the Ukraine war only to be staring into the moral abyss of Tory party relationships with the Oligarchs. So he is doing the only thing he knows, which is to try to deflect. Everyone might be outraged now at such crass words from Johnson, but he is hoping that some of it sticks in the minds of the public and shifts critical focus from him and the Tory party to Labour.

The Oligarchs form an integral part of the Putin political and economic machine. Without them he would be unable to keep the control he asserts or launder the money that has made him very rich. One can split hairs on who is close to Putin, who has been critical etc. but the Oligarchs are an integral part of the Putin Kleptocracy. An Oligarch might speak out to certain extent against Putin, but if they aren't landing in jail or at the wrong end of some exotic poison then what they are doing is merely exercising the latitude afforded to them by Putin to retain plausible deniability of Putin's actions in orderto try to retain the freedoms in the West which allows them to launder the cash. They are like a dog that might bark but is careful not to strain any more on the master's leash than allowed.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis

It seems to me that the closer one gets to the higher echelons of the British (English?) class structure, the less is the requirement to display the traits which we think of as 'class'. Class in that sense of the word is most important to those who we might term working or middle class.
