Whilst I can see that having a gambling problem (if he/she has such a problem) could be an issue in such a potentially sensitive position, does Rishi routinely discuss his election. plans with his Protection Officer?

I would have thought that (say) taxi drivers may well hear the odd useful bit of information, are they also forbidden to bet?

The issue about Sunak discussing private matters in front of the police is interesting but he has to have conversations in the ministerial cars.

The policeman has been charged with Misconduct in a public office. They are going to hear lots of stuff which they simply can’t divulge.

Taxi drivers may hear stuff, but the direct line of information transfer would be very hard to prove.

A husband was done for overhearing his wife’s business conversations, so if they can prove a direct link they can prosecute.

The Essex cop was likely on £40k a year. Stealing £100 from an old man tells you something about his character. They need to look at every case or person he was involved with because you don't get to 50 and suddenly start thieving such amounts. It'll be a pattern.

I think it's time to consider that as a possibility. It covers a huge area, facing challenges the regions don't face. Change of leadership over the years doesn't seem to have done much to restore confidence.

David Carrick from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, has been charged with five counts of indecent assault, two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service said.​

Hertfordshire Constabulary has also charged him with one count of coercive and controlling behaviour.​

The 49-year-old will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 17 October.​
