That Pride has centred it more and more in the UK is certainly a modern thing. The rise of identity politics has also played its part with a lot of straight people identifying as 'queer'.
A movement that was about making your sexuality something that was fully accepted and the least interesting thing about yourself is now being steered by different activists.

...fully accepted and the least interesting thing about yourself...

Any sources for that? I've only ever heard the homophobic "we don't want to know".

Sources for my view that early Pride events were based on campaigning for acceptance of same sex attraction as being normal and uninteresting (and obviously equality in law)? And weren't about furries and drag queens? The historic photos suggest they were.

A lot of people find drag queens to be sexist caricatures of women and as dated and regressive as blackface. I would no more want to see a drag queen at my place of work than I would want to see the Black and White Minstrels.

That drag queens, trans rights, furries, and fetish gear have become synonymous with Pride is a bit depressing. It probably explains the increasing lack of support for it from both punters and sponsors. Half a dozen or so have been cancelled so far.

That you think that's happening is a bit depressing.

I had a lovely chat with Lucy earlier and she agreed that wandering around wouldn't have been appropriate.
