Does anyone else think DP World sounds like a very niche theme park?

UK labour protection laws were shite before brexit ! Like this has never happened before.Fire and rehire isn't illegal in the EU ...Brussels didn't rush to help Irish Ferry workers when the same thing happened to them. The goverment had the chance to put a stop to fire and rehire, suprise suprise they didn't ! The lie was Leave campaigners promising better wages, better employment rights etc !
Anyone who actually thinks the Tories give a flying feck about workers rights hasn't been paying attention.

God they got that completely arse about face didn't they? I'm absolutely in favour of trade unions in principle but how do they manage to be so completely useless? They're like certain sexual practices which seem like a really good idea but which just end up being absolutely terrible or even in some cases actively harming the
Useless in what way....do you think these workers would of been better of on their own so to speak ?
Never been more important to be in a Union !

Unite, along with the other healthcare unions fell for the government's con trick over NHS pay, not to mention McCluskey's attitude towards Brexit. Didn't stop my pension being devalued either. Fortunately I've been able to leave them and join a more specialised union instead.

I gather DP World have been working with government ministers on plans for Freeports. That bodes well.

I take it all back, sorry @Unkraut - I never knew. I had been travelling with P&O all these years and did not know of the association despite being Kent born and bred.
No problem - also Kent born and bred. ^_^

You can't worry about what happened in the past for ever, but the fact the Herald disaster could have been prevented by spending about 600 quid on a CCTV system stuck in my memory, and I preferred to travel with other operators. SeaFrance was a favourite until they also couldn't make the Calais Dover route pay.

When the kids were younger we tried to avoid buying Chinese products but it became nigh on impossible. You cannot always buy everything ethically.

And Julia who is still using them.
And lazybloke who would still use them if he had booked.
And the thousands of people who will travel with them in the coming weeks.

So yeah, just me

Or are you all going to stop using P&O and goods carried by its parent company?
Thankfully I don't have a booking with P&O, and even if I did, it would likely be my last, at least whilst I can afford alternate carriers.

@Julia9054 cannot afford to lose 600 quid. A point that you seemed to have missed.
@lazybloke I assume can't afford to lose that money too.
You're lack of empathy here is very telling, but not surprising.
Yes, if I was back in the UK, I would not use P+O or anything owned by DP World. You state that they're responsible for 10% of worldwide freight. There's still companies that do the other 90% so boycotts will be not too much of an issue.

No, I couldn't afford to lose £600. And effectively giving P&O a cash gift would hardly be a punishment, so I wouldn't think any less of someone who holds their nose and honours their existing P&O booking.

I would encourage them to take their business elsewhere in future, but I imagine anyone with a shred of decency & empathy will already be of that mind.

Somewhere in P&O Cruises, I imagine they're already on Day 3 of an urgent rebranding project.

As ever on here, you have all already made your minds up about my lack of empathy. I am not unempathetic at all, I am just saying that the economic reality is that the ferries will remain full. Several of you have jumped on me and called me heartless etc, but then defended Julia for keeping the booking. I am not blaming her at all, I am saying that I completely understand and don't blame her.

It's terrible what has happened, and how it was done, but the reality is that no-one will change their bookings, we have an amount that we would be willing to lose to support people, both financially and emotionally. In reality it is unlikely to cost £600, there is a cancellation policy in place which means that some money could come back, but more importantly we have holidays that are important as we have missed a few years worth.

So let's not all pretend we would boycott a company, when in reality, in a couple of weeks it will be Easter and there will be no space on P&O ferries.

How wonderfully naive of you. Anyway, don't let the fact you are not back in the UK stop you, DP World operate one of the busiest terminals in Hong Kong (CT3). So what will you be not be using as it comes through there?

Feel free to tell us that you actually have no idea at all what comes through there, so will be breaching your own boycott on a daily basis
