These two left the party in protest, then rejoined 4 years later when the problems they perceived were no longer, so I'm not sure what the equivalence is to Lawson.

I'd imagine the Labour leadership has taken a look at the Tory party, fatally fractured, contemplated for a while on the recent history of Labour and decided that it needs a consistent message and members who buy into it.

"Pluralism" is just a word. The Tories are pluralist, but I feel you'd not object to Sunak sacking Braverman and squashing the ERG.
