I know - I was struggling to work the map widget. But the new enlarged region will include Durham, Sunderland etc...

Yes, that is true, I am not actually sure just what will be included to be honest, but, as I understand it, the area will be much enlarged, so, the number of voters will also increase of course. I think I am right in saying that the voting system used last time (my area was not included then, so, didn't have a vote), was a type of PR, with each voter having a first choice and second choice candidate.

Whilst I would very much like to see Driscoll win, I am very doubtful, locally, it is a equation of "vote labour", even if it is a donkey you are voting for.

We can but hope.

Durham might meet with approval (a Castle and a Cathedral), but, the rest is mainly ex-mining villages and characterless new build where the proles live, with their flat caps, whippets, Daily Mirror. ;)

In an idle moment, resorted to Google https://northeastca.gov.uk. It would appear the "South of the Tyne" combined authority is not going to have an elected Mayor. Looks like it will be run by a Committee, "It is comprised of the four Leaders of the four constituent local authorities, plus the Chair of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.".

But, in now appears this situation has changed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_East_Mayoral_Combined_Authority and Jamie (or who ever succeeds him) will run the enlarged Combined authority, along with heads of the individual Local Authotities.

The population of the enlarged Combined authority will be almost 2 million.

As you may guess, there has been very little publicity regarding this.

I'm sure the electorate, if asked, would like free food and energy, free housing, free cars and free beer.

They probably wouldn't like the economic consequences.

The water companies are close to insolvent now. How much would it cost to take them back? Would it be less than bailing them out?

Trains? They're all franchises. Simply don't renew when the term ends.
