Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
Yes. That's how opposition works. By definition you can't defeat any government vote without support from at least some MPs in the ruling party and / or independent MPs.

Labour has over 200 MPs. They could have smashed it all by themselves. But that's not the point I'm making.

You are aware of the distinction between legislature and executive, yes? One of these determines the other.
I
In theory yes, but in practice your last sentence is debatable, especially with governments that have a large majority, and the boundaries of both are always being pushed a la Johnson.

But this is just a debating point that would add political pedants to the list below and avoids the discussion over whether the political principles of a political party should mean less than expediancy

The motto of football managers, accountants and Russian/Chinese presidents everywhere.

Labour are just Tories. No difference. Waaaaaah.

They are going to water down workers' rights in line with what the Tories would do

The "Waahs" are getting shorter through the post. Don't let your enthusiasm flag.

Personally I have never bought into the hyperbole that Labour are no different to the Tories but I can see how welcoming a right-wing Tory like Elphicke into their ranks might not disabuse some of that idea.

I'm hoping that Starmer's approach is to consolidate power and weaken the Conservatives and then to actually bring out good policy once in office. Winning the election surely has to be the number one target, and one presumably that even he can't stuff up (famous last words) at this stage.

Anyway, it's Wednesday, PMQs, and who do we think will make the dramatic move and cross the floor today?

My money on Rishi Sunak.
