Every time I buy alcohol at our local ASDA, and, use the self service tills, the machine challenges if I am old enough to buy it. Doesn’t cause a problem. 😊

Having to buy tobacco at special shops is a really good idea. If you make bad habits inconvenient people will be less motivated to do them. Wish the vaping fad would pass. It's turned into a bit of a hobby for some and it's quite antisocial in its own way.

Modesty prevents me from answering that. The members of staff with a sense of humour, do sometimes ask for ID/proof of age.

More people smoke in Spain than England, where you have to buy cigarettes and tobacco in separate shops.

I remember as a teenager going all the way to North Camp to the tobacconist to buy proper loose flavoured tobacco. I was sure it would have closed down by now but I just checked and it looks like they're still in business.

But if there's loads of the shops it doesn't make a difference if they are specialist shops. They would need to be specialist and infrequent, like off licenses used to be before it was deemed a good idea to sell booze on every street corner. It's very true that the French and Spanish like their fags, Greeks even more so in my experience.

You have fallen for the stench of visual marketing. When the smoking ban came in, it was possible to smell the stench of a smoker from 5 yards.

This introduced a new thought. Will cigarette vending machines be banned in UK? That is assuming they haven’t been already (I am a none smoker).

Answering my own question (above), cigarette vending machines are now illegal in Uk.

Bought a bottle of wine in a shop in Honolulu which had a challenge 40 policy. They accepted my UK photo driving license as evidence. I had no problem with such checks even if they were brought in here.
