The opinion of Cyclechat should be more important than your kid's exam results >:-(

My wages are down by 20% due to the state not being able to provide my children with an education so forgive me if I'm less than sympathetic at Starmer's kid not knowing how to use a library.

I'm with you, but there may also have been complications around protection.

I do get it, in similar circumstances I'd want to be able to give my kid a chance to study but twenty grand?

My personal take is that in any case it's a symptom of a failure in society and education that we have this emphasis on short term exam performance anyway. But I think I've been fairly clear before about what I see as the shortcomings of the education system and I can't see even radical left wingers such as Starmer and Phillipson changing it to my satisfaction before the time my children have aged out of it.

That is a calculated value, not a sum of money paid. Alli said you can use my pad. Starmer had to then declare the "value" of having that facility. Alli is a very rich bloke, so his pad is high value.

Another firm agree.

Same with the arsenal directors box seats. They are valued at £1000, but they are also not for sale. It’s invite only so no one is receiving or giving £1,000.
And Starmer pays for a season ticket anyway.

It’s definitely a security issue.
My daughter went to the same school as Liz Truss’ daughters.
For the very brief period of her being PM the kids came to school with a police escort.
And I attended a parents evening after she resigned and she still had a full escort.

Well, he's got five years to reform the education system and regain my sympathy.

It would appear, nothing. He became independently wealthy off his own back. He's been a labour party supporter since around 1995 and was made a life peer in 1998. He isn't involved in anything dodgy at all as far as I can see. He uses his wealth to focus on gay rights, youth and education and to support the Labour Party. He appears to have no vested interests at all. It would probably make a Tory MPs head explode.

As I understand it, he made his loot as an investment banker. Not normally a universally popular group of people on this forum, I would have thought?, maybe I am wrong?

Aside from the expensive clothing for Starmer and his wife, and for Angela Rayner, Alli has given over £0.5M to the Labour party.

Then, in the first weeks of Labour government he gets a ‘triple A’ pass to be in Downing St for several weeks, attending political meetings.

But, hey, maybe he’s just a concerned voter who’s not interested in any return on his investments.

Well yeh if it doesn't actually stink it is pretty whiffy. But just one point, he is a member of the House of Lords. In the last government Cameron was made a Lord just so that he could become Foreign Secretary the same day. I do also note that Starmer wants to abolish the House of Lords in favour of an elected second chamber - maybe these donations will make his view on that a little more malleable? Screeching U turn ahead?

Nope. He worked for a finance magazine then made his first amount of loot as an investment banker. Then left that world and went into entertainment where he made his second amount of loot forming Planet24 which he sold to Carlton. Then he got involved with Shine and ASOS which he sold his stake in for a load of cash and formed Silvergate media. He's also involved with SMG.

However he only ever seems to have used his political position to lobby for gay rights.
