Try reading the replies. 60% work in low wage low skilled jobs. It does not follow that they do not have skills. For the majority the issue is the cost of re-qualifying or obtaining new certification for the job they used to do.

  • Some migrants are not eligible to claim benefits. Most non-EU citizens who are not permanently settled residents—including skilled workers and international students—are ineligible for income-based Jobseekers’ Allowance and Universal Credit, as are EU citizens who moved to the UK after 31 December 2020 and do not have pre-settled or settled status. For more information about which migrants are eligible to claim benefits, see the Migration Observatory briefing, Deprivation and the no recourse to public funds (NRPF) condition.
  • Migrant workers eligible to receive unemployment benefits may not understand their entitlements or may be unfamiliar with the process of claiming or visiting job centres.
  • Migrants were less likely to be unemployed for long periods. In 2022, 26% of those born in the UK who were unemployed had been so for over a year, compared to 20% of non-EU migrants and 15% of EU migrants.
among non-EU migrants, those who initially came to the UK seeking asylum had both a lower employment rate and a higher unemployment rate than other non-EU migrants (Figure 6). Several factors may have contributed to this, including that refugees tend to have smaller social networks to support the process of finding a job and often have a lower health status, particularly in terms of mental health (Ruiz and Vargas-Silva, 2018). There is also some evidence that restrictions on asylum seekers working while their applications are being processed can lead to worse outcomes in the labour market in the long run.

So weirdly, it turns out that having to leave your home on the hurry up and cross thousands of miles of the world in terrible conditions then being imprisoned by the UK Government for a long period without the ability to earn money, get a job or support what might be left of your family can have a mental health impact. Who'da thunk?

As I have previously asserted. If we processed the claims and supported people to gain qualifications, more refugees would be working in skilled jobs, fewer would be claiming benefits and the country would benefit overall from more taxes being raised and a growing economy. It's not rocket science, but as long as we have outlets like X and the Mail peddling the "all asylum seekers are criminal scum" line with Politicians listening to them in craven obeisance, the bigger the problem gets.

Israel actually does have a potential challenge with Israeli's leaving Israel (though I'm uncertain of which countries they are emigrating to. Been increasing for some time but now at record levels

Even prior to Oct 7 (based on report on data leading up to 7 Oct)

and across year ending 2024

I wonder how many of those Israeli citizens were of the Jewish faith and how many were Arab, Druze, Circassian, Christian Arab, and Armenian Israeli citizens.

The article I read was mostly about educated jewish citizens disillusioned with the turn towards religious fundamentalism.
