Being the sort of Labour leader that attracts support from (ex) Conservative ministers says quite a lot about Starmer, doesn’t it?

Any of it good? My worry is that he takes the middle class vote abandoned by the tories and in the process leaves the working class vote to be swept by the far right. I repeat myself but, echoes of the Weimar Republic?

One has to hope the working class 'don't get fooled again'....

Have you seen the latest polls on brexit sentiment in the red wall? I think that hope is misplaced.

Do you have a link to those polls?

I have seen a few Yougov polls that show roughly equal numbers thinking the present policy on immigration is too lenient or too harsh, and that an increasing number think Brexit was a mistake, but nothing specifically about Red Wall areas.

I need some time to dig out the poll, can't find it straight away. It was a poll that found that in the most brexit voting red wall areas it was Reform, and by extension Farage, that were benefiting from the discontent with the tories. There was an article in the graun about Cruddas pointing that out.

There's on the one hand that Starmer doesn't come across as a convincing anti immigrant brexiter to those people, and on the other hand by trying to be a convincing not Corbyn he comes across as anti working class.

At least a right wing, red wall, turf war, will split the vote betwixt Cons and Reform potentially to Labour's benefit....

I hope that is true but is it possible that, as in 2019, they might push the Tories even further right and then stand aside at the last moment?

It's fecking amazing a so called man of integrity the standards he has.If your happy just to keep the Tories out without a clue what will actually change then maybe, seems most here can't see past just getting rid of them.....
Personally speaking we deserve a lot better than Starmer,Streeting,Reeves. He needs to wake up and see what actually matters to people,at least try and give us some hope.

I suspect that there are many middle ground Tories who wouldn't have a particular issue with any of those being renationalised.

My issue with Starmer is similar to the issue I had with Corbyn. He needs to actually oppose the Tories. If they are for extreme Brexit he needs to be offering something different. There is no point having two major parties offering the same things.

Agreed...so what's he so scared of ?

Comparing Starmer to Corbyn lol....I can't think of a single thing he's done since taking the Leadership that makes me want to vote for him. From his starting point of unifying the party and his leadership pledges to removing the whip from Corbyn.Theres more,a lot more than Brexit that needs fixing.Starmers 2nd ref was a gift to the Tories at the last election and now he hasn't the bollox to even mention it.Were in a totally different place and need some proper solutions.Your right with your last sentence.

One would think that Starmer (or his advisors) don't agree with your assessment of what "middle ground Tories" have an issue with. perhaps

I don't think Reform is going to get fooled by the Tory right anymore, I think they smell blood from a fataly wounded Tory party and will go for the kill....
