I'm not confident that he will ever be in power, which is a good thing. This is more wishful thinking on my part.

Given that Polanski's the only rUK party leader who supports self-determination for the devolved nations, him being PM is the only way a referendum will happen. So obviously I assumed you saw him as a future PM.

Why would we be bitter about owning Scotland? It's more of an annoyance, but no more than that.

But don't you guys all think Scotland's a pretendy nation of feckless subsidy junkies, all sitting on our fat arses swilling Buckie & watching our 60" tellies, all paid for by the boundless generosity of the English taxpayer?

Oh, you’re not bitter about thinking you own it.

You’re bitter about the mere idea it would flourish without you leeching off it.

Assumption is the mother of all farkups, as they say. If Scotland became independent I wouldn't be too bothered whether they succeeded or not. That wouldn't be our problem any more.

On your first point, no but hadn't really thought about it like that. More that we might change our minds.

On your second, you might have shocked to know that I've gone beyond using 'Trainspotting' as my way of finding out what it's like North of the border. I also happen to have two good mates who are Scots and are hard working, self supporting types who are doing OK for themselves - in England.

Some of my best friends are Scottish?

I hope you're not trying to imply that I'm Sweatist ^_^

This is a very odd perspective. I don't think I've ever heard anyone claim England leeches off Scotland.

Scotland has a budget deficit of 11.6%. Public spending per capita is 14% above the UK average. In England, it is 3% below.

For context, the French are in political crisis because of their budget deficit. It is 5.6%. England's is 5.1%. Spain's is about 3%.

The numbers for Scotland are catastrophic, were it to be independent. In the short term, the rest of the UK would be better off. Scotland would on the other hand have to return those numbers around whilst also incurring the high costs of setting up a nation.

Surely you must realise how painful independence would be? If ever Scotlabd were to be more wealthy than its neighbours, you can't expect that to happen within a generation.

Indont suppose anyone could argue if Scotland decided to go through that process, but it would be a pity for you if you chose to do so without understanding the "short" term consequences.

You have to wonder why she asked whether she needed a licence, if it is such an obscure local requirement.

According to reports she had "Social Media'd" how these licenses in her area are a good idea. They cost a fair amount of money so she would have been aware they had not paid the license fee.

But the individual is responsible for complying with laws and regulations. Individual may chose to take advice from 3rd parties and delegate actions to 3rd parties but that does not remove the obligation of the individual. IOf you delegate something you still have to check they've done it properly.

eg If I'm advised I don't need to renew my driving license at age 70 that does not remove the responsibility from me. My responsibility to double check and I take the blame if I don't comply with laws/regulations irrespective as to what others have told me or said they'll do.

Edit: Plus, she has just been making up untrue excuses, completely changing her excuse as truth emerges. Trust her story?

All these licenses do is create another tax raise. The council pocket it, the tenants pay for it. The good landlords already abide with good practices, quality of houses, the bad just ignore it and carry one
