Twitter under Musk....

It's being suggested that Twitter are also looking at the purchasing of followers too now.

It's always been strange that some accounts have huge followings but get relatively few comments on their posts, few re tweets etc. It will be interesting to see which accounts 'lose' thousands of followers once the bots are removed.

There’s a critical difference between excluding someone and being unconvinced by their opinions, Ma’am.

So it's like going down the pub and chatting but without going out?

Well, IMHO, essentially, yes, but, it is a VERY big pub (thousands, indeed, millions of “customers”), and, you have little or no control of who talks to you, or, what they talk about. Finally the ultimate deterrent (a punch in the face) is not available.

I wonder if this is why the angry little men get so het up here, there and everywhere.

They can't invoke or carry out their usual threat of 'finishing it' or silencing people with physical violence of some sort

Although tbh there are plenty of threats of violence dished out by meat-heads online.

As detailed by many of our female MPs .

But you can choose who you interact with. I use it to keep in touch with distant friends & acquaintances amongst other things.

Musk is totally over-simplifying how Twitter works. You can't just 'open source' a platform like that, there's just no way that's even close to possible. There's way more going on under the hood than it's possible to understand. You could maybe take a snapshot of one days content and analyse that, but not a chance in real time.

The online world is a constantly evolving environment. Social media platforms are ridiculously complicated. If you actually try to get a handle on it properly your mind would explode I reckon.

Violence would never be my preferred solution, in case you are wondering.

However as a mild mannered 50 something year old, I did have the distinction of being barred from my local pub for becoming involved in a heated argument with an acquaintance (a school teacher as it happens) about allowing HongKong Chinese entry to the UK. For the record, I was in favour of allowing entry, also, I did not resort to the "final deterrent:

Online threats of violence and actual violence are rather different, until that is Microsoft/Intel/Apple add a fist to their products.

True enough, but there can definitely be a sinister element to it e.g. stalking etc etc

indeed, I am not condoning it (violence) either online or real world. Just pointing out, the to me rather obvious) that people may curb their tongue, if a punch in the face is a REAL possibility, whereas, online, as we all know, there is no limit to the average keyboard warriors bravery.
