He didn't get there by being stupid.
He sort of did. He got there by being charismatic and saying what people (republicans) wanted to hear. He got other people to write books for him, other people to do business deals for him. He knows how to bully, how to cajole and how to walk on anyone who gets in his way without caring. I've seen no evidence of him actually being able to think.

But then...

You seem to be contradicting yourself.

Sounds pretty clever to me.

I doubt that all of the previous bolded things just happened out the blue, he had to think, scheme, plan.

None of the above, necessarily, make him like-able, but, he is most definitely not stupid, and, that, IMHO, makes him very dangerous.

How so? The guy is good at bullshooting. He isn't clever. He doesn't have a master plan.

He got himself elected as the most powerful man in the world against the best competition, at several stages.

You didn't.

Which one of you is the smartest?

It's pretty self evident unless his master plan involves a long jail term and financial ruination along with the potential imprisonment of at least some of his children.

Just because his plan hasn't worked, (so far), doesn't mean he didn't have one.

Hitler's plans didn't work out did they?, but, I rather think he did have a plan.

Does every plan you make work out exactly and perfectly?

Well yes, and it was illustrated in Mein Kampf.

Trump does not have a similar manifesto. His plan is "doing what I want" which isn't really a plan.
"I wanna casino" - it went bust. "I wanna make steaks" it went bust. "I wanna golf course" - he's losing money on them. "I wanna be president" - worst US president in history and now being investigated for multiple crimes.

If that's a plan, he's crap at planning.

No - he was egotistical enough. A clever man would have realised that being elected President would shove all his crimes and misdeeds into the spotlight and invite investigations into his business practices which could bring him down, bankrupt him, destroy his "reputation" and end up with a lengthy jail term.
Everything up until now, he has gotten away with, using the very same tactic, simply deny everything that went wrong and claim you're fantastic. He got away with his Hotel imperium collapsing, his tv programme and linked ''campus'' not delivering on what it promised, bragging about ''his'' Trump towers now being the highest after 9/11 and probably much more that i forgot to mention.
Destroying his reputation? He already did so himself, but bragged his way out, Bankrupt? i think he lost count on the amount of times he went bankrupt.
No i think he simply didn't have any other choice than to brag his way to the highest position, the reason he succeeded should be the main reason for worry.

You are right, everything has gone bust, he is living as a hobo, in an abandoned railway boxcar. ;)

I suppose there is a certain cleverness about constantly borrowing money - some by just not paying contractors - and not paying it back but keeping on spending it on whatever he wants.
and getting away with it for his whole life

He also has enough cleverness to get people to work for him that can make it impossible for consequences to catch up with him
but it is not real cleverness.
He doesn;t seem to realise that other people matter. If someone suffers for him to get what he wants then he does not appear to see how that is even relevant.
He considers that anything he wants he should be able to get - hence whatever means he has to use to get it something he can see no wrong in.
or so it appears

I suspect he is not mentally all there - empathy seems missing as well as the ability to form cohesive long term plans and see possible consequences
He also seems terrified of looking in any manner weak

So - clever in some ways - but seriously lacking in many other aspects of what we would consider intelligence.
