After the noise created in particular by Fox News, about a small amount of cocaine found in the visitor section of the White House during the Biden administration, it transpires Trump's White House may have had a much bigger drug problem.
A recently released
report drawn up by the Inspector General of the Department of Defence, with the not so snappy title of
Evaluation of the DoD Internal Controls Related to Patient Eligibility and Pharmaceutical Management Within the National Capital Region Executive Medicine Services, has identified that during the period 2017 - February 2020, there were among other things;
- ineffective internal controls to ensure compliance with pharmacy safety standards
- failure to bill for care provided to ineligible recipients
- overspend by using branded and not generic medicines.
The report includes a sample of a controlled substance tracking form, which shows that drugs recorded as prescribed included ketamine, morphine and fentanyl.
But the record keeping was so poor, the controlled substance records did not accurately reflect the unit’s procurement, inventory, or disposal of controlled substances.
