Is that an everyday thing or has the runoured US civil war already kicked off?

All the publicity Trump has been generating about his inability to come up with either the cash or the bond, to cover his $464m fine, (despite him claiming to be a billionaire), looks to have backfired on him. Judge Engoron, who hit Trump with the fine, has issued an order extending the powers of the financial monitor who has been in place since November 2022.

Meanwhile, with cash or bond due by Monday, the Attorney General who secured the fine, is turning up the heat on Trump, by filing judgements on various properties. https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/21/poli...suggestions-impractical-and-unjust/index.html

I think he may be discovering that there is actually a limit to how far you can refuse to recognise reality. It may be the first time it has happened to him in a way that will significantly affect him.

Interesting data on Trumps windfall.
Unlucky investors. Though investors is probably the wrong word. What will be fascinating is what value there is left when cash in gets enabled for Trump.

And against us (1783).

ACtually they didn't win that one either

We won it

OK - it was the British against the British where one side were British citizens rebelling against the Crown
But they were still British

So we won it - the "us" that was fighting against the Crown British

but still British people

and anyway - what do you mean "nitpicking", "Pedantic" and "twisting facts"????

He’s looking to float his rubbish social media platform.
Trump supporters are the main backers, and they will almost certainly lose money on the deal.
I can't think why institutional investors appear to have stayed away. 🤔 Not wanting a repeat of the finger burning of the dot com bubble, or not trusting someone who even failed running a casino.
But Trump is adept at, being polite, picking the pockets of his supporters.

Conversely, there is only one reason why very rich people will spend money to rescue him. Quid pro quo. They will have an easily controlled President in their pocket if they can solve his financial problems and get him installed. Then they can move forward with implementing New Gilead.

The very rich are already pulling the strings. Billionaires such as Harlan Crow have Supreme Court justices like Clarence Thomas in their pockets as revealed by Pro Publica and the Daily Beast.
Virginia Thomas, the wife of Clarence Thomas, is an election denier who was not only was in regular communication with Trump's former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in the run up to and during the insurrection, but runs a right wing "think tank", through anonymous donations.
The Koch brothers have for many years spent tens of millons of dollars funding far right activities. Even by the standards of some American donors, they are referred to as mega donors.
In 2022 AFL (see up thread), raised over $40m for its activities against women, immigrants, trans people, etc. I would suspect the figure for 2023 when published will be higher still. Again anonymous donations and I doubt very much of that income came from the average American. And there will be many other right wing organisations through which money is funded.
My personal opinion is that with Trump they had the vehicle to implement the plans they had been gestating for years. However, whilst still popular within his cult, he has turned into something of a loose cannon. Plus the activities of MAGA within Congress, where people such as Green, Comer, Jordan and Boebert, appear to be having a competition to see who can be the most stupid and/or extreme, may also turn some Republicans off. - For example their recent declarations should they return to power, concerning defunding law enforcement, banning all abortions and effectively banning IVF.
So far as Trump funding is concerned, the noise he has created over his civil cases, in particular the fraud trial, I would have thought made it difficult for a rich donor to step in, without it being as plain to see as with Clarence Thomas, to whom Trump was beholden. But given he has no shame or morals........
As regards Truth Social, he avoided the draft several times and thinks of people who died for their country as losers, so Trump will screw the small investors without hesitation.

Reddit had 850 million monthly active users in 2023 has peaked at launch to be worth $9 billion.
Truth social with 3 million active users thus has its $5.4 billion valuation 99% in Trump.

Without him the real value would be a push to settle at over $100 million.

Recent Republican congressmen resignations look to have put the MAGA Republicans in an awkward spot.
When conservative Republican Ken Buck of Colorado recently resigned from Congress because of MAGA, his departure appeared to be designed in part, to also screw MAGA Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert. Boebert is trying to dump her current constituents, having been elected by only a narrow majority, and is trying (unsuccessfully so far) to secure a seat in a more Republican friendly congressional district. She had her eyes on Buck's constituency, who had signalled he would not be standing in the General Election. His early resignation now forces a by election. Should Boebert change constituency, not only might her current district turn blue, but she might be seen as a carpet bagger in Buck's district and lose there. If she doesn't change constituency, it means that there would be an incumbent at the time of the GE, who would stand a better chance of resisting her efforts to switch and make her vulnerable to the Democrats in her own constituency.
The latest resignation, that of Mike Gallagher also appears to be a deliberate attempt to spike MAGA's efforts. Gallagher has made his resignation effective from 19 April. Under his State law, because of the date of his resignation, his seat will remain empty until the November election, thus further reducing the Republican majority.
After Gallagher has gone, if all Democrats in Congress vote together, Republicans can afford to lose only vote.
