.....- have you blanked out in your mind that this "adventure" happened to be led by the very country that threatened Armageddon and got its way in the Cuban missile crisis!? ...

So which country was threatening armageddon, and which one got its way? The USSR threatened the US with nuclear missiles on Cuba, and the USSR ultimately got its way with the US quietly agreeing to remove nuclear weapons from soviet borders. What point are you trying to make here?

Another dodgy headline from the Telegraph.
'Europe clearly now wants Vladimir Putin to win'

This whilst the US looks to essentially abandon both Nato and Europe.
Difficult times.

Have you not noticed why nobody calls it the "soviet borders missile crisis"? If you are immune to the irony of even the warmonger's own account in the present context, I don't think you could be helped.

In terms of making your point, you might be more successful if you dropped the gratuitous insults.

It's the arrogance of the righteous.

I am SO SO sorry - where would we be without you two gents as etiquette police?

Your assertion is the exact opposite of contemporaneous records that have been declassified and gone public. If you have evidence to the contrary please provide it.

This assertion has been repeated by many here, but it is fallacious, because it presupposes the conclusion by circular reasoning.

In case you still fail to understand the fatal flaw, your assertion is analogous to:

"The boy needs to be caged 24/7, because despite that he still attacks people."

It is logically spurious because it precludes the very real possibility that the boy attacks people only because he is caged. Worse, the assertion enters farcical territory if the boy has threatened to attack people if caged.

HTH.

You really are a condescending prick. HTH.

WAIT!! Where the fcuk were you two then?

Rather than donning fake uniforms playing policemen, why not grow a pair, and make some insightful, out of the ordinary observation on the subject that can survive scrutiny instead?

Oh dear, I was sure I replied to Albion's post. But that was minor.

Take this...
... Then what - what is to stop Russia re-arming and attacking again in a few years time

Well - clearly we should ask Russia to guarantee that they will not do this - that they will take the current situation and publicly state that this is it and promise to accept this for all time

Sounds fine

Except that Russia has already promised this with the old borders
and now they have reneged on their promises and vows and invaded anyway

so why should the people of Ukraine believe them this time - and why would anyone want to live near the Eastern border knowing that tanks could come down the High Street at any time
and missiles could land on Kiev at any time

how do you make Russia to make a commitment that can be trusted or enforced
Perhaps the important thing is to act honourably?
Since Yeltsin's years there was a widely accepted commitment from the US not to support NATO expansion. Later this was represented as not being a 'promise', but why did Biden not re-iterate it when asked? I heard him refuse to rule out Ukraine joining NATO on the radio, a few months before the Russian invasion.

Just because Putin is a bloody dictator did not make this a diplomatically supportable position!

What 'liberal democracy' we have here amounts to a media surround-ground free of almost any nuance. This may be better than some alternatives but we feed the seeds of repression by stoking up the international ante. Hey, Putin has war as an excuse for censorship. Meanwhile the UK political class is spoonfeeding native jingoism. What's our excuse?

Just so long as he doesn't stand near any windows, or, take any flights ;)

Nah - the other "candidates" were placed by Putin to make his election look like it had some legitimacy. They weren't running in any real sense. People with genuine conviction end up like Navalny as genuine convicts before having accidents / "falling ill".
