Ah yes..

'Commercial football' that well known repository of political nous, and moral upstandingness 🙄

It's a shame that bit of stupid behaviour tarnished what seemed to be a pretty excellent show of solidarity. Good to see the manager, club and media outlets condemning it.

As is often the case (though not always), a minority making the rest look bad.

So where are the people asking for 'politics to be kept out of football' now??

Of course its all tied up with money - and who has the most* money - to pay for players etc - no questions asked as to how that money was acquired .

And then its all innocent - "Oh we had no idea all this was going on" - We thought that lovely Mr Abravomich had made all that lovely money through the sweat of his own brow ..

People just don't want to know - its all too much trouble - because if they did know then they might have to take a stand.

And lets face it - The Football is far more important right ??

Ultimately, your last sentence is correct for a lot of people. Protests at football are generally short lived affairs (with a few notable exceptions JFT97 for example) as it's hard to keep momentum when often issues will divide your fanbase.

As an example, some Killie fans started a campaign called NAPM (Not a Penny More) in a bid to get our previous chairman out of the club. While ultimately successful, it did lead to some picket style confrontations and came close to doing more harm than good on a couple of occasions.

Hell, I even argued with my dad about it, as he thought the previous incumbent was doing a good job, whereas I thought he was a thieving rogue. In the end we agreed it was a little from column A, a little from column B.

I'm increasingly becoming convinced that we should go ALL-IN with sanctions: stop buying their gas, everything.
The experts* say Russia needs our gas payments more than we need their gas. Sure it might be painful for a while - at least if Putin plays hard - but worth it in the long-term to stop Russia basically crapping all over us until Putin leaves this plane (or longer). And the same for every other aspect of trade.

I was told about the world needing 40% of its grain from Russian - well that doesn't change anything! Carbs are evil anyway.

There is little doubt that the UK is easily bought with a little bit of Russian money, and the Tories, although not the only ones, are first in the queue with their hands out and their eyes turned the other way,

If only we hadn't been so blinded by the media.

Ukraine also grows a lot of food for European export.

Or it did, can't imagine that many Ukrainian farmers are concentrating on spring preparations right now.

That one deranged violent despot can have such a terrible effect on so many lives, beggars belief.

Maybe that's part of it, most of us couldn't comprehend the 'thinking' behind such terrible acts, so couldn't believe this could come to pass.

Most of us don't live in despotic states, where the state takes precedent over the people, with power vested in so few, and have come to take for granted that we can vote out our leaders and governments.

And those leaders know we can do that out-voting..

Even if it takes a while..

As many have said before..

Democracy (even shonkily done) is a terrible way to run a society..

Until you look at the alternatives..

And yes I know 'our' democracy is in a fairly terrible state of repair..

Maybe all this might be the wake up call that some need, to look again at what we're 'allowing' to happen on our watch .

Such as the diminishing right to protest ...

Well you see when us 'noisy' sorts that go out to protest against injustice, wars, climate change, environmental destruction, that sort of thing..

Were are just a 'nuisance' -

And what more we're an 'unwashed' 'jobless' nuisance at that..

Just ask anyone on CC - they'll tell you 👍🏼

Much better we get arrested, 'tidied away' abused and thrown into jail.

My mother is refusing to use any gas now, she is literally just wearing extra layers and refusing to use gas and hand gas potentially to Russia.
