Prof Monckton-Smith has done some interesting stuff on escalation and why it's really important to not ignore the small stuff. Very few offenders start with rape and murder. They start with unsolicited photos, or voyeurism or indecent exposure.

The Emily Attack stuff is horrifying but this is the 'small stuff' that gets normalised. If you're young you might grow out of it, but if not and sending unsolicited penis pictures no longer gives you a thrill, what comes next?

Well yes, but if you make a fuss about this kind of thing, you're just being a 'prude'

Or committing that utterly unacceptable

'Crime-that-is-absolutely-worse-than-any-other'

of 'having no sense of humour' 🙄

It's pretty hard already to get the bigger stuff taken much notice of, but why should women and girls even have to put up with any of the 'smaller' stuff ??

It just gets 'normalised' with a resigned shrug.

https://www.theguardian.com/society...-twisted-ideology-infiltrated-british-schools

From the article

"I listen in on one Men at Work training session, attended by 20-plus teachers from state and private schools. Many of those attending are also parents, worried about the impact of influencers such as Tate on their sons. “We see misogyny every day in my school, with everything from boys ignoring instructions in corridors from female staff to serious sexual assaults,” says one teacher. “We need to do something.” Another describes how boys entertain themselves by seeing how many times they can slip the phrase “Make me a sandwich” into her lesson.

“They feel a shared confidence, as they are all accessing the same content online,” says one teacher. Another adds: “Our boys have an emotional connection to the influencers they are accessing. They will use any argument to defend both their views and their behaviour.”

Tate’s particularly nasty form of misogyny has not appeared out of thin air. As Conroy makes plain, misogyny is as old as the hills. Almost three years ago, Soma Sara founded the Everyone’s Invited initiative, which began as a website for survivors to share anonymously their experiences of rape culture and has lifted the lid on the scale of sexual violence and misogyny in schools. Since then, there have been several high-profile killings of women, including Sarah Everard, while official statistics published last month showed a large rise in the number of young men referred to the government’s Prevent scheme in relation to misogynistic “incel” ideology."

Can't help but feel that the massive surge in freely available, easily accessed, often extreme, Internet porn now available to kids helps to fuel these attitudes.

Yup of course that's going to have an effect.

It normalises all kinds of toxic behaviours, and amplifies the objectification of women as little more than servers-up of sex.

And does virtually nothing* to promote ideas such as healthy equitable relationships, or true consent.

* I am aware of such phenomema as 'ethical porn' - but the tiny tiny fraction that that comprises is going to be a drop in the ocean compared with the 'mainstream' - and 'extreme' stuff.

I think older people often don't really get this. They don't grasp that the pornography available today is a million miles away from porn in the 70's or 80's. It is literally a few clicks, no age verification, and you can see the worst, most violent, non consensual sex acts you can imagine.

At some point there was a move where instead of that stuff being somebody's secret vice it became a mainstream interest. Not fully acceptable perhaps, but routine and common. All that Japanese anime lollicon crap doesn't help either. The whole incel thing is driven by porn induced unrealistic expectations of women and sex. Horrible for women, massively harmful to young men.

I honestly don't know how you start to row back from the stage we're at now.

Reading around the chip
Usual police/media codewords for what will almost certainly turn out to be a family annihilation - a man executing his wife and child before killing himself.

I realise they can't actually detail precisely what happened at this stage, but wouldn't it be nice if, for once, they held back from publishing the sort of photos that suggest a harmonious family unit and the sort of text that reads like a soft obituary for the killer as well as the victims?

It reads to me like it's more about the school than anything else.

It’s too easy for someone with access to a gun to do something stupid/evil.
