One question to the half dozen 'hard liners' on here, how much does this lot anger you in real terms?

On a scale of 1 to 10 say, 1 being mildly 'put out' with what you see and 10 being 'can't think of anything else and constantly ruins my day'.

Just trying to assess how much politics really impacts you in a real World sense, for example would you go home at night and rant and rave about the latest goings on to your partner or is it only on forums you have a moan?

Also, were you a lot happier in life when 'the other lot' were in charge or were you just as upset?

Serious enquiry.

Before you bounce it back, I couldn't give a t**s what any of them do to be honest from any side.
I won't give a score on a scale of 1 to 10 because that is unrealistic and varies from month to month, but I do often get annoyed and angered by the activities of government, even though they do not directly impinge upon my cosy little life. I do discuss these things with my wife, my kids, my colleagues and my friends. I used to feel the same about some of the actions of the last Labour government.
Politics is not just about me and my life, but it affects my family, my kids and my granddaughter's future life and I have the right and the duty to be angry or concerned about it.
I feel guilty because I am not as active in my interest in politics as I used to be, including no longer being a member of the Labour Party, mainly due to cynicism about politicians and increasing polarisation.

Despite all this I still manage to have a good social life and have a laugh with friends. Concern about politics and a happy life are not mutually exclusive.

YMMV.

P.S. I am not sure if you consider me one of the half dozen "hardliners". I doubt that I am very hard line at all, just left of centre.

Have you got a little list?

"Hardliners"
lol

What reasonable person wouldn't fail to be angered by a government which continually lies and cover ups?

It's not enough that this country is led by a serial liar, I don't care how much of a "great campaigner" he is. At the start of this pandemic I was right behind everything Johnson and Hancock were saying and doing, I even gave them the benefit for locking down late because of the unprecedented situation.

But lies about Cummings, the flat refurb, parties at number 10 on top of the behaviour of ministers and billions given in deals to friends and donators to the party, as well as a home office who are committed to treating desperate refugees as criminals is more than enough to make any decent person angry.

Not to mention the whole issue of trying to prorogate parliament in 2019; this government is happy to ride rough shot over the democratic process and pursue a populist agenda in its lust for power.

Jeremy Hunt would have made a much more competent leader than the blond haired dickhead that we're stuck with at the moment. Surely "far right nobbers" can see that too?

Well we can ALL guess the answer to that one, can't we? As Mark Twain famously said, "It's easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled."

Jeremy Hunt? Seriously? But I very much doubt it on the second part. They'll only see what they're being shown by vested interests.

And comments like that will make us start voting Labour will it?

Must really annoy you?

I've even seen the word hate used a couple of times in reference to us Tory voters, I guess you're a 10 then?

So, I see you mention “spreadsheet”, do you remember the thread I mentioned?

It is fairly clear that my “likes” and “laughs” are being observed and perhaps counted, which just encourages me to spread them randomly, to confound.

From another thread, but, posts like this below, add nothing to any discussion, IMHO:

Mumbles something about not giving a toss, in the style of a certain poster.

Two good interviews on the Today programme this morning, with Sadiq Khan and Wes Streeting. I could actually believe there is hope for the Labour party, and it's been a while since it's been possible to say that.

Sorry, "far right " is probably a little bit too much.

How about "right wing nobbers", better?
Same thing isn't it?

I would imagine it must be so frustrating having a Government selected by aforementioned 'nobbers' time and time again and know they're laughing at you (the nobbers that is).

Love it!

It's a good question, but it isn't just about "them" and "us". I was raised as a good Tory, and am definitely not a left winger. I have no particular love of Labour's more socialist policies. But I am pretty much middle of the road, and my impression is that a good amount of the country is in that position.

I have however become more interested in politics that I used to be - probably due to my love of satire. I am exposed to more information than ever before, and what I see more and more is just how venal and corrupt the Conservative Party has become. In many ways it is no better than a Corbynite Labour Party. I don't see the value in destroying relationships with the EU just so weathly tories can protect their hedge funds. I don't see the value in painting desperate people as criminals. I do believe in the more Tory ethos that people should work to improve themselves, but I also believe in the more Labour ethos that we should help those that need it. It just makes sound economic sense. It improves the country and raises more money via tax to invest in the country.

The current government is the worst government I have lived under. Petty, venal, stupid, selfish, immoral. It's a if you don't like it f*** off government. A government that does what it wants without thought for the people affected by those stupid, selfish decisions. And yes, I worry about it because I worry about my children's future. I want them to have the benefits that I had. Access to jobs and travel for free across 27 countries. A grant to go to University and grow as a person, etc etc.

Would I support a Starmer government,? Yes. I think it would be more like a Blair government or a Major government. More middle of the road. I think if Starmer wants to "win" at the next election however, he needs to kill off the "no alliance" idea and encourage a liberal alliance. Partner with the SNP and Lib Dems to form a majority liberal alliance. This would ensure that the more lunatic labour policies don't get enacted, but that we have a chance to return to a semblance of normality and the country might get some of the worldwide respect back that it once had.

Was I happier when Blair was in charge? Yes. He did some very good stuff as did Brown. He also did some very bad stuff but that doesn't entirely cancel out the good stuff. I didn't mind the Cameron / Clegg alliance. I thought that worked well. Then we trickled down the slope into letting old Etonians with no morality lead the country.

A 7 for me, and no - my wife is a politics free zone unless you want your life shortened.

A mere detail… but, wasn’t David Cameron an Etonian?
