I was talking with a small group of “the poor”, in the pub recently. None of them had suitable Id for voting. None of them appeared to be concerned, since none of them were on the Electoral Register (they called it the debt collectors register).

And you no doubt explained to them that you can keep your name off the electoral roll/register, also that having your name on the full register can improve your credit rating....

I have asked this because my wife currently has no valid id

Council are geared up to issue them - but can;t even start finalising it because teh government has not told them what the rules are yet

I have asked them twic and written to my MP asking when the rules and conditions will be sorted out

council cannot proceed - and my MP can only forward it to the Home Office - and gets no reply

without getting all cynical- it is not well thought out or executed
